@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu as a citizen in the EU I would like to ask, how would the age be handled? Is it self-defined? Does it need to verify? How will it be verified? Who will handle verifying? What will protect us from those who are supposed to verify, will there be restrictions?

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Better than the alternatives, investigated the code and documentation bit that it was in it's design safe, if everything follows the design, I found 2 points of failure that could store data without permission, the initial registration step, gotta trust them to not store the data if you don't use something like BankID, second one is the checker, gotta trust it to not store your key (even if it's anonymized, it's consistent). May have changed since I checked. Should not store shit like the US companies, the anonymous ID database should not be storing any personal info from what I saw. Big minus for relying on the Google Play API instead of the generic that works on GrapheneOS etc, at least when I last checked. It's reliant on a US company using that. Not needed in the first place my opinion tho, hopefully it's just a non-corporate decentralized option IF a country decides to add those laws.

@EUCommission Yes, recycling has a use. But you brought up repairability, and I believe that needs to be on the software front too for this to happen. Unfortunately capable hardware has been invalidated by companies deprecating them through refusals to release software updates. We need regulations that make demands of a minimum ammount of years of software support, which would normally not be implimented as it's not in their capitalist interest. I know that this will not reach the people actually making decisions, and I'm kind of dissapointed by other people that think spamming a social media manager with the same things repeatedly would do anything. There are offical ways to make complaints, this is not it.

@bagelcollie alt-text you can add for accessibility: A comic that consists of 3 parts. Part 1 shows the new design of the Minecraft chick(baby chicken), it almost looks like a yellow little square. Part 2 is the chick between two hamburger buns, sitting on lettuce. Part 3 is the artist Bagel's fursona holding the burger seemingly about to eat it. They are a brown and light brown dog with a red collar.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Sorry to disturb you, but I have readt the documentation and would like to ask some questions. So the "Mock Issuer Service" is the only step in this chain that handles your identifiable data? Does the "eIDAS Dashboard & Trusted List" only store the attestation and nothing else? Can the "Verifier Service" access any personal data when it got your attestation? This is the page I am referring to: https://ageverification.dev/Getting%20started/introduction/#core-components

@GLaDTheresCake@todon.nl @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu

Then the attestation should not be backwards traceable to a person, unless one party:

  1. Saves the identifying data in "Mock Issuer Service" along with your attestation. (modified code)
  2. Has a widely used "Verifier Service" (Idk if that will ever be a thing) also tracks where your attestation is being used. (modified code)
  3. Has a way to connect the (theoretical) saved data in both the "Mock Issuer Service" and the "Verifier Service" to create a profile.

Just to be clear, I'm not taking any stance, just saying what I think it means.

@parsingphase@m.phase.org I have recently been looking at ESP32 devices, so ofc I thought about that first :blobfoxlaughsweat: But more realisticly you could look into getting a camera server (with file storage, or seperate file storage, if you wanna watch what happened before), it could just be a old computer or like a NUC. And then get some (preferably wired) ethernet cameras with good enough quality for your liking to set up and use with the server. I have seen these servers remotely cast both live feed and recorded footage to a phone, using a home-hosted website, an app, or something like that.

@GLaDTheresCake@todon.nl @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu The "eIDAS Dashboard & Trusted List" seems to be a database that stores these attestations, they are also stored on your mobile device in order to verify with the "Verifier Service". The "Mock Issuer Service" seems to be the register step, this seems to be where your data is handled to make your attestation, and they claim that it shouldn't be stored. But the not stored part is unfortunately based on trust from what I see (if they don't use the Open-Source code without modifications). Anytime you verify it goes through a "Verifier Service" middle-man that gets your attestation, it then compares it to the database it collected locally to see if your attestation is in it. So, to my knowledge they shouldn't know that you were trying to verify at all, just that someone did with that "Verifier Service".

@GLaDTheresCake@todon.nl @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu I have been reviewing the system for a bit and it isn't perfect from what I have seen, one of my concerns is the use of the "Google Play Integrity API" and I believe that the "Android Hardware Attestation API" would be better fit since it doesn't restrict you to devices with a USA-based service. But to my understanding the EU seems to have control over 2 steps in the process. The process I will attach as a picture and I will also link to the website. These 2 steps seem to be the "Mock Issuer Service" and the "eIDAS Dashboard & Trusted List". The "Verifier Service" seems to be something that services host themselves from what I have seen. https://ageverification.dev/Getting%20started/introduction/
