there's something about webpages created in 1996 and regularly updated by a university professor non-stop for the past 30 years without any change in the design
also, yet another rant about generative AI
yeah, I know it can help me immensely for my game projects, and I could just use it and be done with it
but I won't
it's going to take as much time as it needs, it might still take years, it's going to be hard, but I just want to do it the old-fashioned way

forget I don't have my debit card
Well, I can always do a deposit the old way

in any case the engine should be small, compressed, and ideally one executable with maybe one data file
the data file could be embedded within the executable but depending of where I'm going to publish it it may be better to separate the platform-dependent and -independent data so I could ship 4 executables for Win/Mac/Linux/ARM without deduplicating the data 4 times or something

I kinda feel bad for the previous owner, though
He spent 29 years doing his job, and then spent a while making sure he picked a good successor, earn his trust, and doing a transition to make sure it goes smoothly
And then we're only 6 weeks in the new ownership and everything immediately broke

I'm gonna miss the place, I made a lot of friends there :(

@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social Reminds me I met the guy who claims he invented the uwu emote
if that's not a very important contribution to the Internet culture I don't know what this is

@ifixcoinops@retro.social that wouldn't surprise me most of that stuff can't be sold in Canada, either
either they don't sell this in Canada, or if they do they have to change the recipe significantly, and most of the time it tastes better because most of the restricted ingredients is cheap crap that isn't particularly good for your health and the US use them for purely financial reasons

@mos_8502@studio8502.ca that's pretty much the same mood as /usr existing entirely because hard drives on PDPs back then were 3 MB and UNIX needed to be split between hard drives, of course they've done this kind of arbitrarily, and then that was only later they've put some rules to justify what they were doing

yeah, here goes the plan
I was looking forward to this, but eh, I guess I can't in good conscience stay employed in this place
I'm losing my house and now I'm losing my job, that's great /s

Nevermind
Some dumb drama happened with the new owner, causing the staff to massively leave
This isn't ideal

Yeah it's going to be basically modern HyperCard with VN features and other fun stuff I'm gonna think of

come to think it's probably just going to be a small, restricted, custom subset of HTML, or SVG with extra steps
could be good, though

The game is on a timer, and score is just how many innings you got the most runs, except in the last inning where a run is a point
that's interesting

yeah this is going right in my list of queer-coded sports along with roller derby and women's hockey

@vekkq@social.vivaldi.net surprisingly, it's cheap, well, if you are a citizen of Canada
I guess it's useful if every employer asks for it but idk it's all a sham anyway

some guy went to my door with an anti-suicide message and some books to sell for a donation
of course he low-key hid the Gospel of John in the free stuff he gives out in a bag so you realize it's a religious message after the fact
