If your cybersecurity team tells you that the software "escaped" during testing, it's time to fire your cybersecurity team.

Just gave up a domain from an old project that I kept around for 20 years without ever really doing much with it. I *know* that I will never do anything with it ever again. But I still hesitated to turn off Auto-Renew. Letting go of old unused domains is like burying an old dream.

(2/2) There was so much to discover - there are also walls with old brochures for 1980s-2000s devices. Japanese magazines from the era, and more hardware all over the place.

At the current pricing and expected rate increases, the only jobs AI can reliably replace while being cost effective will be C-level executives.

@vampiress@eigenmagic.net This post is excellent - you put into words exactly how it felt when I originally experimented with an LLM - there are so many small choices that lie below conscious thought that make up my personality. Even if the LLM follows my instructions to the word, I still gave up control on many micro-decisions and the end result is... average.

The Graph That Should Be Front-Page News

Every so often the Earth produces a signal that is impossible to ignore. This graph is one of them. It shows sea-surface temperatures in the Niño 3.4 region of the equatorial Pacific, one of the most important parts of the Earth

Whenever I hear that some idiot was burning through thousands of dollars with AI instead of just doing their fucking job themselves and managers encouraged this situation for months without a shred of oversight, it makes me despair.

What a waste.

@Simplicator@federate.social There were a couple of Palm OS devices that I was unfamiliar with, but don't remember what they were. Overall, the collection is naturally very Japan-specific. Some devices and device groups that might have been popular in the West are underrepresented.

@dan@discuss.systems Yes, highly recommended. It's a small space, takes about an hour or so to poke around and play with the devices. Is that standardized testing museum still in a temple off Chang An avenue? I vaguely remember a place with many large stone tablets that recorded the students that passed over the centuries.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org This El Nino will certainly test some of those tipping points - and even if everything returns to "normal" in about a year, it's going to a rough 12 months. The near-complete silence by so many large news outlets instead of reasonable attempts of education is incredibly unhelpful. Most people are just not aware of how bad it already is.
