Nice pick, @Taweret@timeloop.cafe Always love some Vincent Price action #monsterdon

Should probably be more discussion about all the horrors Oprah Winfrey has amplified Satanic panic, Dr Oz, Dr Phil, multiple grifter psychics

True story: I was once menacingly texted by the husband of someone who worked at this club

Not sure what the Venn diagram is between dudes who complain about video game women not having big enough tits and dudes liking this "poem" from the Ready Player One author, but I kinda think it's close to a full circle

I truly believe it is very important to remember how stupid these guys in charge of the US were before 2003, while recognizing how much dumber the current guys are

I am not a particularly smart guy, but I'm capable of reading source documents. And it's wild when you get called out on shit you learned from those documents I once saw a guy online ask, "Was the Civil War *really* about slavery?" and the answer is yes. The articles of secession explicitly state that shit!

Saw someone point this out on bluesky, and it's pretty bonkers When Medicaid work requirements kick in next year, you could probably get around them by finding any sporting event that is -110 on each side, open up separate sports betting accounts, bet on one team on one app, then bet on on the opposing team on the other You'd have to bet around $1,290 once each half of the year. You'd win one side of each bet, and end up paying ~$120/year in fees for health insurance https://www.aei.org/commentary/the-medicaid-work-requirements-gambling-loophole/

In my experience, a good way to suss out fraud is to simply say, "explain this to me like I was 5 years old"

Something that kind of irrationally irks me in movies and tv shows is when a character gets a call to "turn on the news", and when they get to the right channel, the news report is basically at the beginning I'd like to see one scene where the protagonist "turns on the news" and it's already on to the local weather

Jesus Christ

there are a lot of "memory-holed" events in US history, but Covid's peak was only 6 years ago There were freezer trucks parked outside of hospitals to store corpses, because so many people were dying It was not some kind of irrational panic, and there is a wildly large contingent of people in the world that views it as such

That's the legacy, after 25 years

Check this shit out: The US really beat the hell out of measles. I know that there are a lot of haters out there, most of it well deserved lol anyways, I assume this trend has continued past 2022, no need to check

hate when I get charged late fees for forgetting to return the Necronomicon to the library in time #monsterdon

It must have been so easy for US Navy recruiters prior to this year to get teenagers to enlist "No real ongoing wars, learn some technical stuff, full tuition" And the reality has become, "living on an aircraft carrier for years, two Lunchable PB&J snacks per day because we forgot about food"

It sucks that wealthy guys these days will never truly go broke. It's never personal liability when any of these guys loses billions Shoutout to my favorite NFL owner of all time, Leonard Tose. Owned the Philadelphia Eagles up until 1985. He had to sell them after gambling all his money away (he tried suing casinos for getting him too drunk. This did not work) He died destitute, which is terrible and sad, but it would kinda be nice if any ultra-rich person felt a fraction of that fear

Wearing a bulletproof vest is a great conversation starter

Gonna officially hit my mid-40s in a month, trying to gracefully transition into "creep mode"

The worst thing any high school english teacher can do is force students to read Ethan Frome. A lot of these kids are already dealing with depression

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange I'd be lying if I said I've read it

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange oof

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange at least those are good, but yes

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange I'll read Catcher In The Rye all day over Ethan Frome

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange did he also take you to watch The Phantom, starring Billy Zane?

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange Tim Curry had a nice little mid-90s run playing that role. He and Delroy Lindo (and of course Laura Linney) are pretty much the only reason to watch Congo

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange yea, this is like the bizarro version of my story. Thank you for reminding me that I'm due for a rewatch of Gross Pointe Blank

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange Zeta-Jones springboard flick

It was nice to finally see the origin of this meme #monsterdon

Trying to think of a goofy sci-fi movie that Paul Newman was in so #monsterdon can avoid Sean Connery or Charlton Heston, but I'm not sure there is one Best I can come up with is The Towering Inferno, a disaster movie with a stacked cast that is a disaster of a movie

Just laughed out loud when Sam Neill told a demon (maybe Satan?), "your book sucked!" #monsterdon

lol fucking Danny Aiello is in this? #monsterdon

"Great work, Vincent Price. Can we try a take where you speak like a normal person? No? Ok. Ok, we'll just go with that one" #monsterdon

@b@convo.casa fair point

what the fuck, Paul Sorvino is in this movie??!!! #monsterdon

My (wonderful) dad allowed me to watch movies like Beverly Hills Cop and Die Hard when I was a child, but would freak out when the three-boobed lady showed up in Total Recall

After watching the #monsterdon movie, I checked out the current NFL game and now I'm thinking about any Vincent Price role replaced with Cris Collinsworth "Now here's a guy who knows what to do with a head in a box", etc

Watching football tonight instead of #monsterdon Still scarred from the last movie where Dean Stockwell spends 2 hours making Jordan Peele sketch facial expressions

Classic woman behavior, getting all emotional about being locked in a haunted house smh #monsterdon

@Terencio@mastodon.social I loved it as a kid, but it is pretty bad

Michael Moriarty kinda gives up on the accent later on in this movie and just starts talking normal #monsterdon

Sam Neill really needs to calm the fuck down #monsterdon

I'd still probably make out with Julie Carmen while she's doing that demonic stuff #monsterdon

*working as an undercover fed with an ice cream stand, then whipping out the biggest walkie talkie ever invented to say, "here he comes"* #monsterdon

I don't think it's "a funny thing" when "the bones came up", but this was a different time #monsterdon

sooo, The Dunwich Horror? #monsterdon
