When you imagine an “invading horde”, what do you see? If you’re like me, educated in Europe, or one of its cultural equivalents or ex-colonies, you probably think of a caricature of Genghis Khan and his army. We have to replace this image with a British arsehole in a shit wig.

@yosh If your service cannot handle the load, you can push back, stop accepting more load. You don’t have to degrade the experience for all customers; that is a choice.

@yosh Any of those would work, yes. In the longer term, they might want to implement mechanisms to detect abuse (including huge volume by a single party) and limit it. Closing sign-ups forever isn’t great for business.

GUnicorn crashes or can’t allocate a worker, you see that page. It may be a rip-off (don’t ask me), but if so, it was ripped off by a human.

It shouldn’t redirect you to a specific error page because that would break the refresh button. (Many websites are guilty of this, but GitHub was always good about being a proper website until they got the React brainworms.)

@tychi@merveilles.town It was posssible and still is. Part of that is not rendering giant walls of text (code diffs) as 57 nested React components. I think that TypeScript shouldn’t, in theory, have anything to do with it, but perhaps it makes it easier to break everything down into tiny components?

@RosaCtrl@social.vivaldi.net I’m sure that’s the article that @agentultra@types.pl was subtooting. I enjoyed reading it but I disagree with the conclusion. Yes, the Go toolchain is very very good. The language still has its problems (mostly stemming from no sum types, IMO). A friend who is a Go fan tells me her biggest problem with it is the default zero initialisers. I found it to be a fun article, and 3 separate people have shared it with me directly, but I am wary that the style is making up for a lack of substance.

There was another one a year or two ago where someone claimed that the Replit LLM “deleted the production database”, and they also extracted an apology from the text-generating machine. I do not understand why you would give the LLM (or a human) access to the production database under normal circumstances. But I guess I just don’t get it, and my job will be eaten by the bullshit machines.
