Minus 3.5 C but feels like minus 6 for this morning's walk. Nice sunny day ahead by the look of it though. #canberra

@MsDropbear42@infosec.space His bio says he's a journalist. He might be stretching it a bit by claiming to be an energy expert. I'm reminded of the old dictum - an ex is a has-been and a spurt is a drip under pressure. 😜

@sister_ratched She highlights an issue that is constantly being swept under the carpet by our government and others. It's totally unacceptable that our government still considers Israel an ally. Israel is a depraved, rogue state committing the most heinous crimes with impunity. 🤬

@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone It's taken me a few hours to see the bleeding obvious. I've been struggling to think of something that Malcolm Tucker said about the Beatles and then, eventually, noticed it's the name of the show. 😵‍💫 A bit slow this week. 😄

@cheryanne@aus.social @HardBeingGreen@theblower.au I used to rent a government house too in the early 1980s. Rent was adjusted according to income. By the time we moved out we were paying full market rent. It was our safe haven too when our kids were babies and only one of us was working. I think that the lack of government housing for young families is one of the major factors in the intergenerational equality issue.

@johnquiggin@aus.social It gets a mention in the article but all too often it's overlooked or played down: Wages haven't been keeping up. As Unions have been weakened and membership has fallen working class people haven't been able to get fair outcomes in wage negotiations.

@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I was sitting on the floor of a DC3 as it climbed slowly to jump altitude. There were about 50 of us on the load. We were heading to about 12,000ft and probably had plans for some sort of large freefall formation. We often had plans but our enthusiasm never really compensated for lack of skill. Still, it's ok to dream. On this occasion, as we contemplated that unlikely success, at around 5,000 ft one of the engines seemed to splutter a bit and the nose of the 'plane dipped a little. This caught everyone's attention. But not as much as when the pilot emerged from the cockpit, wearing a parachute, ran the length of the 'plane and leapt out of the open cargo door. You have never seen 50 skydivers get their rigs strapped on and exit an aircraft so quickly. What we didn't know was that there was nothing wrong with the aircraft and another pilot was up front. As the last of us left the 'plane the engines powered up again. All landed safely. 😂🤣😂🤣

@feather1952 it was around 3 degrees here in Canberra this morning Heather. And foggy. I don't seem to notice the cold in the morning but have been putting the heating on in the evening. Monty doesn't seem too bothered by the cold either. I used to have a big bull arab (50kg) who did feel the cold. When he got cold in the night he would lay on top of me in bed to warm up. He also stole the blankets. 😂😂

@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone It's a balmy 10 degrees here in Belco and feels like 2.5. there's some sun around but quite a bit of cloud too and it's not expected to get much above a max of 14 today. No heater on at the moment but I have been running it for a few hours in the evenings. The colder nights are draining the house battery much faster but I haven't run out of power yet so still haven't drawn anything from the grid since the battery was installed last September. Monty Loco has a jumper on now (to compensate for his tight arse human not turning the heating on) but didn't wear it to the dog park earlier this morning.

@HardBeingGreen@theblower.au Agreed. I worry a fair bit that government will be off target in identifying those who are 'not doing it tough' though. Much of the commentary seems to suggest that rather than lift up folk who are doing it tough we'll be dragging down those who are a little better off. It's the corporate tax dodging and the super wealthy that should be contributing more.

@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone @dgar@aus.social Bin night for me. Also, 'call Mother' night. And State of Origin Rugby League. Plus I've just got back from helping grandson number 3 assemble an Ikea table in his new bedroom. They've moved to the other end of Canberra and it's a 35 minute drive to get there instead of the 5 minute walk to their old place. Grandson number 1, who has fallen out with his mum and moved in with me, has been in the bathroom for at least 40 minutes now. Soon I'll have to think about dinner. I can hear the Sirenesque lure of the Turkish kebab shop ...
