Australian Greens voting, racehorse owning punter

A strange mix but I Iike most of their policies

I set this account up mostly to focus on #auspol with a scattering of international and state politics as well

Overall, politics. I'm looking for respectful debate not argument

I might not shout it out loud all the time but I'm an ally and supporter of diversity

Federal public servant and a proud member of the CPSU

Hard watch this morning folks, from Hanson's comments, Abbott's which weren't much better and Andrew Bragg calling the Labor government communist, it's a struggle Don't bother would be my call #auspol #Insiders

Auspol, DemosAU MRP
It'll be interesting to see the full breakdown of seats when it's released but it's worrying the numbers landed here Noting that the timing of Feb - May is probably peak One Nation Numbers from Pollbludger as usual DemosAU MRP (Capital Brief) May-July 2026 n ~9000 ON 30 (+3); median: 60 seats ALP 26 (-3); median: 68 seats LNP 21 (-); median: 13 seats GRN 13 (+1); median: 3 seats IND/OTH 10 (-1); median: 6 seats Primary vote +/- Feb-May MRP Ind / Others at 6 seats seems well short of where they'll land #auspol

With Mark Butler speaking at the National Press Club today re cuts to the NDIS it's worth listening to the interview with Jordan Steele-John this morning of RN Breakfast. Link below

The key figure he raises, and the one that isn't talked about enough, is the economic benefits of the scheme i.e. $2.25 for every dollar spent

Powerful and passionate from someone with lived experience of disability

'People are disgusted' - Greens warn against cuts to the NDIS - ABC listen

Health Minister Mark Butler is expected to announce measures to curb the growing cost of the scheme later today. The NDIS is set to cost more than 50 billion dollars this financial year and it's expected to cost a hundred billion dollars a year by 2036, if the pace of its growth cannot be slowed. But Greens Senator Jordon Steele-John says people in the disability community are 'disgusted' that their supports and services may be cut.  GUEST: Senator Jordon Steele-John, Greens spokesperson for D

It's kind of ridiculous that the RBA has now lifted interest rates 3 times this year at the same time fuel prices are higher and that's starting to flow through to grocery prices etc

I feel bad for them in that it's the only tool they have and the rules they work under effectively forced their hand.

I feel worse for people, especially young families, already struggling to make ends meet with the cost of living through the roof and salaries not keeping up

The budget next week really needs to do some of the heavy lifting rather than leaving it all to the RBA imo

Happy May Day Comrades :solidarity:

Massive month in politics this May starting with a state by-election in Nepean tomorrow along with 2 upper house elections in Tasmania

Next Saturday is the federal by-election in Farrer

The budget on the 12th

A state by-election in Queensland on the 16th, Stafford

And in the midst of all that council elections in the UK along with elections in Scotland and Wales on the 7th

Lots of 🍿 needed as we get a bit of a guide as to where things are at although only part of the picture with not every party contesting in each seat

@emmadavidson @feather1952 90% plus of Greens preferences should go to Milthorpe, there's always a little leakage I wonder how many Labor voters go via the Greens? Hoping to see the Greens in the teens It'll be fascinating to see how the NDIS changes play out. Things need to change but dropping a third of current and potential recipients is too drastic imo especially with the states not resourced to manage the fallout

Seems like a pretty tough budget on the way for the Australian Public Service

Noting there are thousands ready to go if they're offered a redundancy, I just hope they land where they're wanted and not forced on those who don't

Latest I heard is a dozen or so agencies have redundancies on the table already, more to come I'd expect

Some interesting ideas in here imo

#auspol

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-05-07/rent-housing-affordability-rental-cooperative/106309274

abc.net.au

One answer to Australia's housing affordability crisis is hidden in plain sight

What if the sudden improvement in Iain's life, and the extra $600 a month in his pocket, can be traced back to a single policy decision made by a federal minister in the 1980s?

@tubsta@social.bsdlab.au I think the split is 1/3 own, 1/3 have a mortgage and the last 1/3 rent etc You're spot on, the 1/3 that own aren't bothered by interest rate rises and potentially benefit if they have money in the bank

I just re-tooted, boosted a toot from the Scottish Greens on education, I'd be interested in what people think

It's frustrating that I still can't quote toot on Tusky, might be time to explore alternative Android apps. Any recommendations?
