In the end, that’s what I ended up with. I’m not really happy with it, having run my own private marathons with 3:25 and 3:27 this year. But it helped me in that way that I’m not going to do any more of these public runs. There’s not much fun in #running when you’re in a mass of people for the first ~16 or ~18 kilometers (I just can’t remember when they split off the half marathon…).

Final results are in: Of 928 male runners, I was 183rd. And of 59 male runners in my age bracket (50+), I ended up seventh. That’s quite good, way better than I felt when I reached the end of the run.
(My Ice Cubes app has crashed three times when I tried to add ALT text to the pics, so I’ll just let it be for now…)

Last run before the #Einstein #Marathon in #Ulm is done, and it went very well. That might be attributed to a good night’s sleep (only interrupted for ~30 minutes, I had to get my wife from the train station at 3:30am) and one week of almost only 10K runs. So, let’s see what I can do tomorrow. You’ll get pics, but not *during* the run. #running #coros #apex4

That’s what it looked like — unfortunately, it stayed rather close to this for the first few kilometers. I took over whenever possible, but I couldn’t find my rhythm (how should I, going 5:45 in a spot, 4:15 a few meters on, then back to 5:25, then 4:27…)
These masses of people aren’t for me. I was completely stressed out by these huge amounts of people. My heart rate stayed at around 180-195. My usual heart rate is ~130-140, 155 when I really push it hard. #running #einstein #marathon #ulm

Two days until the #EinsteinMarathon in #Ulm — and I’m very much looking forward to this event. The one time I took part in it (~8 years ago), it was extremely well organized, the atmosphere was great and me and my wife had a lot of fun. So it was just a 10K today, but I took some cool pics of the full moon. Yes, what may have looked like the sunrise is actually the moonset. Gorgeous! Have a great weekend, y’all! #Running #Coros #Apex4

@rcr@mastodon.online That’s too nice of you to say. The first few kilometers were just too effin’ crowded (for me, that is. My daughter ran the half marathon in 2:23 — she was thrilled…) — here, look at my heart rate: And, yes, it does say *195 bpm* at the end…

My hip decided to cause some pain and weakness, so I cut short my run and only did a half-marathon. That was enough. Now I‘ll let my hip rest for a bit.
I have been thinking on this for some time now: I‘ll drop the daily half-marathons for a daily run with a fixed time (instead of a distance). That will give me at least one more hour of sleep each night. And, once I‘ve broken the psychological circle of *having to run at least 21.1 K*, I‘ll be open for other distances. #Running #Coros #Apex4

No. Power. Left.
This has been the last day of school for this summer. I was up at 2:20 am, warmed up, ran, showered, cycled to school at 6:35, loaded lots of equipment into a van, drove over to the concert hall for our closing ceremony, afterwards back with all the stuff to our school. There: closing ceremony for the staff – with music. Then: Home (cycling at 34 deg C). Sleep. Bliss. More sleep tonight! #running #apex4 #coros #school #sleep #music

Early up and out, now I‘m tired again. But it was worth running in a perfect sub-20-degrees weather. I even caught some good glances of the #willibaldsburg in #eichstaett during the run — and took pictures! Today, we‘ll drop off two of our kids at some friends‘ house then head back to #aalen #running #coros #apex4

@DerEntspannende@social.vivaldi.net hmmmmmm soooo lecker!

I‘ll never learn…
Some hours ago, someone in my timeline asked for advice concerning ebook readers. I replied by asking if a separate device was needed, I do all of my reading on the iPhone/iPad with apps like AppleBooks or Kindle. I was quite sure of getting a lot of snarky replies (Amazon/🍏bad…), and I sure got them. After a while they developed from fact driven replies to personal insults, so I just blocked some people.
Next time, I’ll just keep my mouth shut/won‘t write a reply. Maybe.

13 degrees Celsius in the morning! What a bliss to run in this weather! And I’m inching closer to that 5,000 kilometers milestone (funny: *inching* + *kilometers* + *milestone* in one sentence). I'm already in the car heading towards Eichstätt (Bavaria) for a guided tour of the city with the *whole* family. Have a great weekend! #running #coros #apex4

@WTL@mastodon.social Yes, I did exactly that. Thanks for the kind words, I try to do my best.
By the way, I seem to be having a RUSH day. I’m listening to music while I’m preparing a meeting with Blues and the Gang. And I keep coming back to music by RUSH all the time. I got me a ticket for their reunion tour in 2027, and I’m really, really looking forward to it. There must be a Canadian trait deep inside of me.

@fezzifezzino@mastodon.social The last two weeks of school are always some kind of catastrophe in slow motion: Toooooo much to do in too short a time. And I was in Italy for a weekend, playing a blues gig in Feriolo (Lake Maggiore). The ride back home during the night knocked me out of my rhythm for more than a day…

@robchapman@ohai.social Ha! Sounds good! I must keep an earlier running schedule for the coming week(s) to escape that awful heatwave. I really don’t like running in 25+ degrees (C) weather at all. How can you do this in Malta? It’s warmer than Germany, I guess. 🥵🥵🥵

@herzueberkopf@norden.social Yeah!

Short evening run in #copenhagen — did I mention I don‘t like cobblestones? It’s not a pleasure to run on them, even without stumbling and falling (I didn’t, but it’s just no fun at all). Apart from that: It‘s a beautiful city in the evening glow. There were quite some runners around, that made me feel a lot more at home. Nevertheless, we’re going back home tomorrow, and I’m longing for my usual routes and routines. Have a great start into the new week! #running #coros #apex4 #denmark
