Testing route guidance on the #UNAWatch this morning.
Really happy to see that the screen is perfectly feasible for navigation use.
Still a few UI tweaks and then this will be released as part of the #VertMatch trail running app for the watch.

How disgusting person you have to be to use the genocide in Gaza as an opportunity to make some money by pretending to be one of the victims..
Bottom feeders.

The OpenSource Indoor Bike app is now available from Google Play
https://indoorbike.app/#install
Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.indoorbike
Naturally, it's still also available via ObtainX as well as full source code.
No Google Play services in the code so e/OS etc still all supported.
Coming soon to iOS...

The #UNAWatch folks lowered the watch price to 199€, which I think is the right proce for it.
I've been very happy with mine. With the known limitations, I can fully recommend the watch.
There is an avtive app dev community building 3rd party apps already.
They wrote about the price change reasoningf here:
https://unawatch.com/blogs/news/an-open-letter-to-the-una-community

My UNA Watch should arrive this week.
Can't wait!
I'll try to figure out how to build some software in public. Maybe live streaming or somethign.
European, sustainable, repairable, open ecosystem.
I want this to survive!

Sandsjöbacka Trail in Sweden in January looks like a challenging race.
An event page for the race is now up at #VertMatch so you can compare the different distances easily:

Trail runners,
what are your non-UTMB bucket list races? What are the ones to experience? Where are the views? Where are the best crowds and organisations?
I'm mostly looking for European ones but feel free to recommenda any races across the globe.

I really don't miss looking at the code.
Code was always the means to the end for me.
I spent 35 years learning to write code so I could craft software users find valuable.
I no longer need to look at the code.
I can fully focus on the value to the user.

There are good alternartives for most libraries. Some more tricky than others to replace. Some still need replacements.
Demand will drive these libraries to to evolve. The free-Android industry is working on brining the missing ones online. There will be a choice.

Yep, in the beginning for sure.
I'm quite actively looking at options to host some of the open source models though. They're reaching a point where sending money to Anthropic is becoming optional.
Tried Mistral, but they're not capable enough yet. But if they at some point are, I'll switch.

The backlog is pretty long.
Garmin might not want to bring competing products into their ecosystem though..

But like we talked in the previous thread. This might not be true everywhere, but it is true on the software I've been building over the last 3-or-so months. I'm sure there are projects where that isn't the case. So I'm really only talking in my narrow scope here.

Yeah, good point.
I'm thinking about this more like an autumn timeframe anyway. This heat is impossible.

That way anyone tkaing the time to improve the system is, not only improving an open database, but also getting the benefits of the full system that is built on top of the open databse.
I'm not fully sure how the details will look like. If you have ideas or thoughts, let me know!

And once you're done with your Route, share your results to your favourite social media and Intervals.icu.
I did retire our Codeberg repo. So please update from Codefloe instead!
Let me know if you run into issues!

I think Impressum is needed for business only. But I might add our company one just in case.
I used Claude Design and Claude Code.

Looks like Isar Aerospace second launch was a success.
European vehicle, launched from Europe.
Further reducing dependency form US-based launch vehicles.
H/T @brupp@social.jumaru.net for pointing this out.

Yes. By my experience they're very capable of finding alternatives.
I usually set a "no Google services" condition at a start of any mobile project and so far that really has not been a problem.

As with workouts, there's a way fr the community to create their own Route categories. In fact, it is the exact same way. And best of all, if you already have a workout repo, you just add Routes to your existing repo.

There's a factor in that equation that needs to be taken into account. Communication overhead in teams is very, VERY expensive. Adding one engineer adds possibly only 50% of their capacity and every additional engineer cumulaitvely less.
If you can compress these into one person you win much more than just one engineer.

So finding routes to ride is easy, just browse the community repos and find somethign interesting.
You can find (most of) the TDF routes, for example already.

There's also an editor on the website that makes it easy to create Route entries. Simply drag and drop a GPX file to the editor and fill in the fields. The editor either edits your manifest JSON or gives you the JSON data to copy-paste.
Nothing leaves your machine. It's all running in the browser page locally on your machine. It's open source, you can check!

The app takes an GPX file and lets you ride it. We only show the map and elevation curve (for now).
You will feel up hills and downhils in the resistance. Virtual gears allow to adjust to the grade just like you'd do in the real world.
Zwift Click v1 works as a gear shifter.
(are there other virtual shifters I should support?)
For a longer route, you can continue your ride on another day if you can't complete it in one go.

The thing is though.. That try as I might. The code actually works. I really have been trying to break these models. But they don't seem to break. For now. When there's a bug, the LLM is very capable of fixing the bug. This wasn't the situation 6 months ago, but it is now. I really do not need to know what the code does anymore I need to know what the machine code does my abstract programming language got compiled to before.

Oh this is cool!
They released a reasearch paper about this some months back. The paper found a significant UX improvement with this approach.
It's not for everything, but defniitely has potential.

I can't figure out how to switch between 2 windows of the same app with keyboard on Macos. alt+tab switches apps.
In the past, I always added a keybinding to switch app windows, but I can't figure out how to add this keybinding anymore.
Macos usability has always been poor. But it just keep getting worse over time.
For some, unjutified, reason Apple just has gotten a reputation of being usr friendly but in my opinion all their platforms are anytihng but.
