RE: https://mastodon.social/@shire_reckoning/116840245576918999 One of my favorite accounts to follow. It posts the entire chronology of the Lord of the Rings on the day it happens in the novel each day. Today the cycle begins again from the beginning. Pull up a chair and follow along! If you are in the Western Hemisphere, you can follow @shire_reckoning_west@mastodon.social for updates in your time zones. This account is on GMT. #Books #Bookstodon #LOTR #Fantasy

The green roof above the Chinatown branch of the Chicago Public Library. I have been really fascinated by green roofs lately. Chicago is a leader in the practice. There is one on top of City Hall with over 20,000 plants and hives. And the rooftop farm on McCormick Place provides the produce for the onsite restaurant. #solarpunk #SolarpunkSunday #Green #Environment #Chicago #Midwest #Architecture #Gardening #Nature #City #Urban #libraries #library

@NormanDunbar@mastodon.scot @vicgrinberg@mastodon.social When I saw galactic archeology, I wondered if the supervisor is River Song….

Got a question for you #Mastodon - what is the ethics of creating an account here for a #podcast I really like? I've had a crazy thought of creating an account for the "In Our Time" podcast on #BBC. I enjoy it every week and thought it would be an interesting way of adding some interesting material to the #Fediverse. I've had the idea since the BBC's experiment here in the Fediverse. I am convinced that it would have been more successful if they had created accounts for select programs and journalists, not the stations (which are too broad for a platform that encourages niches). Good idea? Bad idea? Couldn't care less? Does one get permission, even if I plaster the account with "JUST A FAN ACCOUNT" or "NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE BBC"?

@bruces@mastodon.social So funny you mentioned this. I was walking through my neighborhood in #Chicago yesterday and saw these posters.

@Sheril@mastodon.social Heard such good things about it. “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel” is one of the most memorable books I’ve ever read.

@atomicker@mstdn.ca This one is quite nice!

@dansup@mastodon.social Honestly Dan, I thought you wrote Project Morbius. Then I thought you really went off the deep end. Gladly I am mistaken. Nice work on this!

@Satori@mastodon.thirring.org Sending you all prayers, hugs, and extra cuddles. I hope all goes well with the dentist.

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Used to go blueberry picking as a kid at a local farm. When I was six, the woman looked at me and told me she was going to weigh me going in and when I came out and charge my mom the difference. I cried. LOL. On my last visit, we went back and I got some honey from the farm. Tasted of blueberries and brought back lots of memories.

@skinnylatte I did this not more than a hour ago. I feel seen...

@JohannaForster@mastodon.art Love it!

@catsalad@infosec.exchange Might need a dryer sheet next time to stop too much floof ❤️

@WedaleBooks @books @bookstodon Might want to also see if you can get added to the @FediFollows bookshop list. It is a nice curated list of good accounts to follow. It is often a good place for people to get started on the Fediverse. https://fedi.directory/tag/bookshops/ You just have to ask the account above or send them a DM.

@mizoraman@biodiversity.social Congrats - I was just in India for two and a half months visiting family and I wish it had come out while it was there. Will add it to my list to pick up on our next visit!

@arielkroon@wandering.shop I can see where you are coming from. Saying it so often sounds performative. Like telling people a reason others might understand. But the fact is while many people might have a conversion moment, many come to their climate awareness gradually and be motivated by a variety of factors. (P.S. - used the religious terminology deliberately :P)

@LifeTimeCooking This is interesting! Might give this a try when I am back home.

@trumpet@mas.to (Salutes)

@codinghorror And now, for your enjoyment, a pantomime performance of "A Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula K. LeGuin... #bookstodon #fantasy #leguin #earthsea #ursulakleguin

@BBCRD@social.bbc Thanks for sharing - will take a look! Glad to see you all posting here again!

@drandrewv2@freeradical.zone This looks so GREAT! Excellent work and thanks for sharing!

@FairytalesFood@mstdn.social And the ones who are rubbish are often the ones most oblivious to that fact....

@fedidevs Sigh - did you try turning it off and on again?

@fedidevs I am SO sorry - I thought that you were making reference to the power outages in Spain and Portugal when you said the internet was out again. I was trying to make a joke about the whole country needing to turn the internet off and on again! I can see now that it was not a very good joke 😂

@zotero@fosstodon.org HUZZAH!! Congrats.

@liztai@hachyderm.io Just wanted to add another perspective here regarding the diversity of the casting. I actually thought it might reflect blind racial casting, which you sometimes see in British theater and film more than American cinema. A good example is the David Copperfield adaptation from 2019 staring Dev Patel. When I saw the casting, that's how I read it. I didn't think it was some cynical attempt to appear progressive. I get the impression that Nolan is one Hollywood director at liberty to do what he wants and doesn't really care that much. In fact, the idea of diverse casting in an epic reminded me of Peter Brook's The Mahabharata. It is a 9 hour adaptation of the Indian epic with a multiethnic cast. This was done on purpose to emphasize the story's universal nature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mahabharata_(1989_film) It is pretty interesting - you can find the 6 hour miniseries adaptation on YouTube. Again, not trying to negate your point - just wanted to add an additional perspective on this one point.

@liztai@hachyderm.io I respect your opinion - it is strange that the only thing Greek is the scenery! I had just wanted to add another angle. As I was walking to a coffee shop with my little one, it did strike me that there is a dark side to the blind racial casting in British media. It is a bit rich that the former imperial power who controlled 1/4 of the world (and with some pretty racist views) saying that race in casting does not matter. Might partially explain the tone deafness of Nolan et al.

RE: https://mastodon.art/@PhineasX/115883780875310511 @PhineasX@mastodon.art This makes me so happy. I look forward to this being in some national gallery in a century’s time….

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social I did not realize you were in Illinois! Hello fellow Illinoisian 🤗
