We have some exciting innovations in the field of conference schedule constraint solving for you this year. But also we are currently doing the refactoring equivalent of laying the track in front of a moving train.
New impeccably-produced Schweizerdeutsch ropeway construction video just dropped https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuQUUCiEp_A

Congratulations to the person who stood for election in two neighbouring wards for two different parties (!), and even briefly made it onto the list of candidates before the returning officer realised.

You literally have 10 kilowatts of free power, I think I can afford to spend a watt or two turning the fan on a bit earlier.

This is thanks to the delightfully named Storm Dave.
Thank you Dave.
I see Sir Humphrey Appleby is alive and well in Zambia

The actual generation was probably higher as PV Live doesn't include "Solar BMUs" (the handful of solar farms currently connected to the national transmission network), but it does have a better estimate of smaller generators.
Seems like Amazon has admitted that Iran directly hit AWS me-central-1.

@emily@fedi.uni.horse unfortunately for some reason the current UK government added a rule to the building regulations which requires gendered toilets in new commercial buildings. Thankfully that doesn't apply to temporary events...
@gsuberland@chaos.social quite a good video on PSE testing by Chris Spargo I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAsyJF_WnhM
Logically this makes complete sense but it has only just struck me that you can simply open a DXF file in GeoPandas.

Should have started recording a new metric for this @emf@social.emfcamp.org: how many times our bank has required a video of my face. It's been at least 10 times so far.
Replying to
@Workshopshed yes! Assuming there was a G99 form filed with your DNO, PVLive will be modelling how much energy you're producing

(The parties in question were the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK. No, I have no idea either.)

@cloudthethings@hachyderm.io we continue to push the state of the art in computational conference scheduling https://github.com/emfcamp/slotmachine

@AlisonW they have just launched a new model of bike which looks a lot safer, but it'll be a slow rollout I think.
(A matter close to my heart since I broke my leg falling off my own e-bike!)

@pfsmet Nice! I think the brighter reflection in the middle of the image is a reflection from inside the spacecraft, but there is another reflection next to it which is the moon reflecting off the sea

@markmccaughrean Tech details: Nikon D5 at ISO 51200, 1/4 sec exposure.
(Thanks for posting - I'm out of the house and didn't post it because I couldn't write an alt text)

@RichiH@chaos.social to my knowledge, our constraint-solving scheduler is still unique and has saved us weeks of manual scheduling so far. (At the cost of perhaps days of debugging...)

@flangey yeah this is Limehouse Town Hall, we have 16kWp solar and a 18kWh battery there now. My roof is...difficult.

@whitequark @Psychonaut the law was passed last year but most (?) of the changes actually take effect next month https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/69bc04b8f7b1c24d8e23ce60/The_Renters__Rights_Act_Information_Sheet_2026.pdf
(Landlords are currently being very normal about this by evicting everyone before the deadline)

@fionafokus@mystical.garden meanwhile the BSI is currently emailing me once a month about EMF's (correctly secured) PostGIS server on Hetzner
Replying to
@fionafokus@mystical.garden Definitely not a new thing - I once made the mistake of launching a bug bounty program on HackerOne without firewalling our SSH first, and ended up absolutely buried in these reports.

@martinvermeer@fediscience.org @bert_hubert@eupolicy.social @knmi@social.overheid.nl "wind turbine clutter" is the term - it seems like it can be detected by the doppler signature. The UK weather radar is very good at suppressing it, but the Dutch radar was not so good, so this is good news.

@hugh@social.crablab.uk @RichiH@chaos.social good news probably, this should make it a lot easier https://github.com/emfcamp/slotmachine/pull/16

@domi@donotsta.re @aelin@donotsta.re it's 1 year now (for files which are no longer visible to the client or if the computer dies).
But you also only get the "unlimited" plan if you can run the (Windows or macOS) client. Otherwise you need to use B2 at $6.95/TB-month.
Replying to
@elricofmelnibone engineering for cost and insufficient maintenance I think. I ride the Lime bikes occasionally and they all have the stopping distance of a supertanker compared to the disc brakes on my bike.
But the issue isn't just the brakes (full article is behind a paywall unfortunately)
Replying to
@hugh@social.crablab.uk @sammachin@chaos.social yeah, my campervan doesn't need an active data plan over the winter though, and I slightly resent having to pay for a SIM for it. (Smarty lets you pause for 6 months.)
Replying to
@oni maybe not quite as often? There are still some criminally bad traffic light timings around tbh
Replying to
@RichiH@chaos.social we ended up writing our own stuff just before Pretix and Pretalx came onto the scene, and it's all so tightly integrated and customised that it's now more work to switch, so we're kind of stuck with it all.

@zkat currently this ("account backfilling") still isn't supported with either Mastodon or GoToSocial. You only see posts from an account from after someone on your instance started following them, unless the posts make themselves to your instance some other way.

@TodePond@mas.to headliners???
