emily, professional edge case
I make electronics go beep boop and tools go spinny. Also, I pet cats sometimes.
I am eternally grumpy that the state of the internet, and of fedi in particular, is such that the following isn't obvious:
If it's visible to you, you can interact with it. If it's public, you can boost it. You don't need to ask me for permission first.
I understand nuance and will not be mad if you respectfully disagree with me on something.
Follow requests require approval only for cursory vibe checks, and will be accepted if your profile has literally anything to suggest you're not an asshole or spambot.
CRSF is an amazing protocol: https://github.com/tbs-fpv/tbs-crsf-spec/blob/main/crsf.md
- this markdown doc in a github repo is the sole official spec of a protocol implemented by multiple manufacturers
- name apparently chosen specifically to troll people who work on web stuff (where "CSRF" is the name of an entirely unrelated thing)
- big endian. stop making big endian things. nobody has big endian hardware. you are just making everyone convert between the two on both ends
- defines a bunch of oddly specific device addresses, but also refers to the target address field as a "sync byte". afaict absolutely nothing ever sends or expects anything but 0xC8. this includes things sent by the flight controller, which is the thing with address 0xC8
- if you ctrl-F "voltage", the first thing you will find is frame type 0x0E, labeled "Voltages". this does not work, the one you want is 0x08, "Battery Sensor"
- the actual control inputs are sent as sixteen densely packed 11-bit integers, with 992 defined to be the center point, because fuck you that's why
curiosity: how do people read my domain name?
Probability of wanting to switch jobs soon has gone from "maybe" to "extremely likely" recently, so now public and boostable:
I'm looking for work. Software engineer, 14 years experience working on various SaaS things in various languages and frameworks, lots of linux sysadmin/electronics/firmware experience from side projects which I'd also be happy to put to use.
DM me for a resume if your company hires that sort of person.
Filters:
- based in Olympia, WA (US Pacific time zone, UTC-7/8), cannot relocate
- strongly prefer fully-remote, occasional travel within the US is okay
- not willing to work on military stuff
- I'm openly trans, company must be generally okay with that (that's the whole requirement, just "be okay with that", I ask for nothing more)
- I am currently paid $180K/year, but I'm past the "salary is less important than mental health" part of the diminishing-returns curve here so shrug
