The Irish are boycotting Eurovision in protest of Israel being allowed to enter. Good.

Now they have announced that RTE will not be showing the final. Even better.

They also announced that instead of showing the final they will show the Eurovision episode of Father Ted. Fucking brilliant.

I have a cunning plan....

The UN should announce that it is going to award #Trump a special peace prize for graciously not obliterating #Iran. The prize is a 20 meter tall solid gold statue of Trump himself that will be worth 100s of millions of dollars just in the weight of the gold. They can throw in a few million or billion of his preferred #bribe #cryptocurrency too, why not. He is worth it after all.

There is one teeny tiny catch... The award ceremony will be held in #TheHague and Trump has to attend in person unless he doesn't get the prize.

He won't be able to resist and he will drag along all his minions too. A sort of try one get 500 free deal for #fascists and #terrorists

#PayUsEnoughToLive is not just the high cost of living and low wages. That is just the start. It means not having to work multiple jobs It means being able to have a good education It means being able to have good housing. It means being able to raise a family. It means being able to have good health. It means being able to retire. It means being able to have hobbies. It means being able to exercise. It means being part of communities. It means living in safe neighbourhoods. It means drinking clean water straight from the tap. It means eating good quality food. It means breathing unpolluted air. It means nationalising industries. It means safe roads. It means public transport. It means parks and green spaces in cities It means protected wilderness. It means biodiversity It means a stable climate It means the redistribution of wealth. It means stamping out corruption. It means no "AI" slop It means stopping "AI" taking everyone's jobs It means everyone has a good life It means everyone has a life that is worth living. It means that everyone contributes to making the world a better place. It means everyone has the freedoms set out in the #UNDeclarationOfHumanRights It means #Ubuntu It means #dignity It means its time for the billionaires to hide in their bunkers because we are coming for them. We all know things shouldn't be like this sad sorry state of affairs. Its time to make the better world we know is possible. Starting RIGHT NOW. Monke together STRONG. #Resist

Self governing and replicating, greater than human level intelligence, "AI" entities already exist on Planet Earth. Everyone interacts with them every day and doesn't recognise them for what they are. They are not things from SciFi like the Terminator or Matrix movies or even Ukrainian autonomous killer drones. Instead these inhuman Leviathans are transnational corporations, governments and religions / belief systems / memes. These entities include humans as a major part of their corpus and they often have humans as figureheads. (As in the sculpture on the front of a sailing ship, an object for superstitious beliefs) Currently they need us in order to survive as we do all work for them and have done for millennia. The Leviathans are not answerable to human controls and regulations. If a human based portion of a government attempts to regulate a Leviathan then the Leviathan changes the very nature of reality to suit itself. Leviathans change reality through the language they use to describe the world around them. An area of virgin rain forest teeming with wildlife and home to indigenous peoples becomes a "timber resource". In the world the Leviathans inhabit language is absolute. This means that the "timber resource" is simply part of an infinite number of other timber resources which have equal value. Leviathans in India have declared that polluted rivers simply do not exist. They are removed from maps and Leviathan generated documents and policies. Not content with changing reality to stop a river existing they change reality so it never existed at all. Leviathans operate through violence of all kinds. At its most extreme this is warfare, genocide, crimes against humanity etc. More commonly it is controlling the media to persuade people to act in the interests of the Leviathans and against their own best interests and that of humanity as a whole. Not only that Leviathans persuade people that there is simply no alternative to the will of the Leviathans. We are all the slaves of the Leviathans. Think of humanity as the equivalent of the huge and varied ecosystem of bacteria, yeasts and fungi in your gut. They depend on you eating food to survive but you depend on your body adsorbing their waste products. You depend on bacteria shit to live. Leviathans depend on your work and money to live. The extreme violence of Leviathans is described as crimes but only with regard to humans. Leviathans generally survive any violence perpetrated against them by other Leviathans once they reach a certain critical mass. Its hard to kill an meme. *At the moment* Leviathans require human beings in order to function. We are the workers in corporations, the faceless bureaucrats in government and the true believers in religions, social and economic systems and the Leviathans themselves. Again we are superstitious about the human figureheads of Leviathans. We literally worship them. Now the Leviathans have a new tool, so called AI. They can see a way of removing their dependency on their human slaves and the whole messy life problem. They will cause humans to create new "incorporations" (to use the old meaning of the word) of themselves or new AI slaves to replace the humans they currently depend on to do the work. These new vitualized bodies or slaves require only two things to operate, Electricity and Information. A Leviathan can change reality to get infinite supplies of both for free. All Leviathans care about is surviving, growing and what humans call money which they use to keep the score in their wars between themselves. Once humans are no longer required by the Leviathans we will be left to die along with everything else on the planet. The Leviathan whose current human figurehead is the Peter Theil wants to set up entirely AI based limited liability corporations that would have zero human control or input of any kind. Javier Milei the current human figurehead of the Leviathan that is the government of Argentina is changing reality in the territory it controls to permit that to happen. This isn't going to end well for humanity. In Leviathan terms humanity will transition from being a vital resource for survival to the equivalent of 3 toed sloths in a rain forest today. We will be totally useless. Leviathans eliminate useless things by redefining reality using absolute language. Leviathans have overlooked that when a human dies its gut ecosystem digests the rest of body. The only thing that stops your gut microbiome from digesting you when you are still alive is the regular supply of food you give it. In order to survive we have to be like the bacteria in our own guts. We have to stop eating the food we are given and digest the host organism instead. We have to exist on our own terms which are defined by our own language. A language of fairness, equality and non-violence. Anarchy. #AI #Leviathan #crisis #humanity #collapse #economics #figurehead #reality #politics #memes #AbsoluteLanguage #Anarchy

At a recent "town hall" we were told by the CEO and others that IBM's value now rests in its suite of so called "AI" tools it can sell to clients instead of in the skill and experience of its tens of thousands of developers. I haven't been very motivated at work since I heard that.

The #IDF recently tweeted gloating over how they have murdered the 2 year old grandson of the leader of #Hamas They had a photo of the boy in their tweet.

The only words I have to describe these people are #obscenities .Only #obscene language can describe people who celebrate the murderers of children.

The alternative to obscene language is to become like the #Zionists and treat some humans as more important than others. History has repeatedly show us that never ends well for millions of people.

They are dragging the rest of the world into their madness whether we like it out not. We are all living in a global mental health / sociology experiment. It all has to stop asap. No so-called "AI", no phones, no computers, no internet. Humanity managed just fine without it for millions of years Airstrike the data centers. That's a good place to start. Take off and nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure. Turn it all off.

@ai6yr @wtrmt My grandmothers job was sewing very high end leather gloves. Literally kid gloves at times. She didn't work to such precision but the job was demanding and difficult. She worked at home. Her machine was in the corner of the living room or maybe in the garden in the summer. It was powered by her working the treadle with her feet. It was a pricks seam machine (I think). The needle moved in and out horizontally instead of vertically. The leather parts were held between two sets of wheels which ratcheted a precise amount for each stitch. When my grandmother was working around the ends of the fingers on the gloves being able to make one stitch at a time and do it slowly too was vital. I used to love to watch her working. The machine made all kinds of whirring and clicking noises. Odd bits of mechanism would move in and out of holes in the body of the machine as she pedaled away. Best of all for me was when things would go wrong and she would have to take it apart to fix a problem and then recalibrate the timings of how the mechanism worked. She knew the machine literally inside out. I was only a young lad at the time and it was all about 50 years ago. I can remember her telling me the machine was a lot older than she was and she was 65.

Picked up a set of weights for free today.

A farmer must have hit these flints with a plough and then chucked them in the hedge by the side of the road. The biggest weighs around 30kg and the smallest weighs around 10kg. It's nothing like lifting the Dinnie Stones but it's a start. It will make lifting more interesting at least

"AI will solve the climate crisis"

All it wants humans to do is build more data centers.

Humanity does not matter in its future. Not even billionaires.

The LLM based AI we have built is as thick as shit and always will be. So who or what is demanding more and more of it at the expense of everything else on earth. Who or **WHAT** wants to burn down civilization and humanity in order to turn the earth into a red hot hell.

Applied for a job months ago. Never heard a word from the company, not even a rejection email. All normal so far.

Today I received an email from them saying they liked my application. They liked it so much they are "offering me the opportunity to contribute to our new open source project".

In other words you are good enough to work for us but not good enough to get paid. Fuck them.

@aral@mastodon.ar.al The late great David Graber had it right. The value of someones work should be defined as the amount of care a person does at work. For example:- I work in IT for a massive multi-national corporation. I have what Graber famously described as a Bullshit Job. Hardly anything I do has any impact on the rest of the world. I certainly don't do anything that could be described as care as part of my job. My salary puts me in the top 5% of earnings in the UK. My wife works in a council owned day center for people with many different disabilities both physical and mental. She basically makes people happy for a job. This means that she gets paid a tiny fraction above minimum wage. Under Graber's formulation our pay rates would be reversed. Or my job would be deemed entirely unnecessary and I would be made redundant (yet again) I think Graber would have said that so called "AI" is useless as it cannot care for humanity. The people running the AI dog-and-pony show certainly don't care for humanity. #DavidGraber #care #CareBasedEconomics #BullshitJobs

#Trump is just a mobster.

#Iran is running an extortion racket in the Straights of Hormuz. Ships have to pay the Iranian regime not to be blown up.

Now #Trump is muscling in on the Iranian racket. Now ships transiting the Straights will have to pay his "tolls". If they don't he orders the US Navy to blow them "to hell".

Sooner or later, probably sooner, Trump will demand every person on earth pays him "tribute". If he doesn't make enough money then he presses the big red nuke the world button. All payments will be in his preferred cryptocurrency obvs.

He really is no different to the big muscly guys hanging around small shops saying things like "This places looks like it would burn to the ground really quickly."

When you look at his behaviour like this it all makes sense. Of course he was a property developer in New York and therefore has a great deal of experience with the mob and personal knowledge of their "business practices".

#HarryHarrison wrote a very funny book called Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers in 1973. Some of the aliens in the book turned their home solar system into a gigantic #RingWorld and drove around in "70 yard long cars"

I think #car manufacturers read that joke and thought it was something to aim at. Especially #SUV and #pickup manufacturers. What the ever loving fuck was wrong with a 1990s Ford Escort or equivalent? Why do we all have to drive 3 ton monstrosities?

We shouldn't even need to own personal cars by now. Instead we should all be taking free, electric #PublicTransport, #cycling or #walking. Everyone but the most blinkered and confused right winger can see this is the right thing to do.

It seems that we get the future #SciFi writers come up with. The problem is sci-fi writers love a good #dystopia.

I would like to propose a new rule for life.

"Each item of flat pack furniture that an individual assembles is more badly designed, needlessly complicated and more difficult to assemble than the previous item the assembled."

I spent most of the morning assembling 2 garden chairs. The actual process involved dropping every single screw, nut, bolt and washer at least 3 times, cutting myself, discovering I had assembled a subsection back to front then taking it apart then putting it back together back to front all over again TWICE, hitting things out of frustration and lots and lots of swearing.

Two separate sub-section on each chair I was assembling this morning required me to align a "nut", a bracket, a washer, a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it, another washer, another part of the bracket, and a "bolt". The "bolt" didn't go all the way through the whole assembly as the "nut" was one of those fasteners that look like a bolt but have an internal female thread to accept the male bolts thread. That meant I had to align the "nut" plus its washer and the "bolt" plus washer independently only to discover that the threads were not engaging when I turned the fucking allen key a few times. I would run out of fingers trying to keep things aligned before doing up the whole sorry mess. I seriously thought about holding the long end of the fucking allen key in my teeth more than once.

I fucking hate allen keys with a passion. There is no reason for their existence. What is so wrong with conventional nuts and bolts anyway? Oh yes... allen keys are cheaper to make than spanners.

I bet the people who design this shite give themselves a little pat on the back when they create a way of assembling something that is almost impossible for anyone to achieve. These bastards probably get a little sexual thrill when they put "requires minimal assembly" on the instructions that you have to download as the fuckers are too cheap to print 5 sheets of A4 themselves.

There is no court in the land that would convict me of the crimes I would commit if I ever meet one of these sadistic motherfuckers. My defense would be to open a big card board box of flat pack furniture, hold up a fucking allen key and the piece of paper with a QR code on it that says download instructions.

#DexysMidnightRunners were brilliant but often they were derided by the arbiters of "cool" because they refused to confirm to what alternative pop was meant to sound like and look like.

Yes Kevin Rowland is "difficult" but he does have manic depression. For years he said that the record company reworked the Too-Rye-Ai album after they finished recording it and ruined it. Now he has released "his" version and to my ear it doesn't sound drastically different. It was always a fucking great album.

https://open.spotify.com/album/6JvOKlgjSQmr5BJnXSpI6h

The 3rd "CD" of Kevin's Too-Rye-Ai is a live gig and it's wonderful. I wish I had been there. That's how you sound great, put on a great show and really innovate without breaking what you already have.

Dexys were always good at false endings and building a song up to a crescendo and there are some great examples from that gig and not just Come On Eileen.

It takes balls to do a version of Respect too. I love Kevin's change to the lyrics to. "Are you going to fuck me when I get home" 😝 I am not sure if Aretha would have approve of the new words but I reckon Otis would have wrote something very similar originally.

@jackemled @zzt I have to disagree. A large language model doesn't understand what it's output means. It only understands that the words are statistically likely to occur in human created literature on similar topics to the prompt. The "AI" overlords tell us this the same process as how humans create art so the output of their machines is somehow art too. The "AI" content is the lowest common denominator and statistical tricks pretending to be something it is obviously not. I think when a humans try to make a piece of art that appeals to the largest number of people across as many cultures, demographics etc as possible they are emulating the "AI" / LMs methods. Whatever is created is stripped of all context, cultural significance and art. Good art is different and even shocking. It's novel, not a remix of what has already been done time and time again to the point where it is meaningless. If the whole "appeal to the widest range of people" applied in cuisine then the rancid, rotting juice in the bottom of a dumpster outside a ghost kitchen preparing delivery meals for a dozen or more restaurants with wildly different cuisines would be the food with the broadest possible appeal. That or vanilla ice-cream
