Ok, I mean, sure, the WORST thing is the fascists ripping the last of our freedoms from us, but once that happens, the worst thing about THAT will be hearing people ask, "How did this happen!?" and then having them ignore or debate with us when we tell them the answer... again.
Please tell me of some instance where communities have taken ownership of their land and the data centers on it.
There are too many data centers, of course, and of course we must stop the construction of new ones and repurpose some of the old ones.
But for any data ceners we might use in a sustainable way, we need community ownership of them... How do we do this...
I know this is like asking how to make world peace, but, frankly, I'm interested in how to do that too, so lmk what you think.

TIL the concept of a pluralist commonwealth. This is bigger for me than the day I learned about the proposal for an international clearing union.
China has not been some kind of ideal government but have you ever tried to organize a group activity that takes everyone's participation, watched most of the group ignore the whole proposal and do something entirely different, and then blinked in disbelief as some in the group proclaim that the activity sucked, as if they had already actually tried it?

@flyhigh@universeodon.com Same here. I read the Indivisible guidebook and it explicitly says if your local chapter isn't for you, start a new one. There's no limit to how many chapters there can be in an area.
But when I told the leaders of one chapter that I was starting a new chapter they automatically assumed it was an antagonistic thing to do and acted like I was being crazy and aggressive to do it.
Imagine citing Jonathan Haidt and thinking it gives you credibility lol

Naturally, activities that require global participation cannot be tried at a sub-global scale.
Similarly, forced participation is not genuine participation and will not do.
P.S. Consent/object decision-making for groups is my new favorite thing.

It seems like that should be a last resort, but then surely you'll need to work with community members on buying land or somehow owning the buildings to use for this purpose. Not sure how I would start here but now researching this.
