After many failed attempts, I finally managed to watch a Vandenberg rocket launch on purpose (Vandenberg is a couple hundred kilometers north of us). This is from my backyard a couple of nights ago.

My mother passed away about 8 years ago, but if she hadn’t, she would have been 100 years old today. She loved birthdays - so Happy Birthday mom!! 🎂

@alldritt@mstdn.ca recently released this super cool open source command line tool for querying scriptable applications on the Mac. It’s been out for a couple of months but I just finally had a chance to take a good look at it, and it is really neat. I’ll reach for this first instead of AppleScript the next time I need to automate accessing data from a scriptable app.

@lukaskubanek @iandundas The last radar I ever filed was in 2019 after WWDC. An engineer helped me devise a workaround for an issue, which I much appreciated. His supervisor asked me to file a radar. Reluctantly, I did, and referenced the supervisor. Of course it came back as won’t fix, so a complete waste of my time. I wouldn’t mind the no pay if they actually fixed things. But yeah - do your own damn work.

I just noticed that Apple’s email for WWDC lists the dates as June 8-12. In other words, the entire week from Monday to Friday. It still says the in person event is on Monday, I hope they still release all the videos on Monday like they did last year.

I guess probably this means they are going to have online labs all week. I wish they would delay those for a week, so that we had a chance to watch videos and do some experiments before signing up for labs. Also, I plan to be in town all week for community events, which makes it even harder to get value out of the labs.

This is an awesome event, I’ll be attending this year for the third time. If you’re going to be in the area for WWDC, I highly recommend arriving on Saturday so that you can attend this meetup.

@StewartLynch@iosdev.space Happy birthday Stewart! I hope to be following in your footsteps in just over six years! When I was 18 I never imagined that I would still be having fun programming 50 years later, but here we are. If anything, it’s more fun than ever 🎉

Thanks to the weird calendar geometry there’s been no NSDrinking since October (at least I’m assuming no one showed up on New Years Eve). So - testing 123, is this thing still on? Hmm, maybe I’d better test the nsdrinking.com zoom link - yep, it still works. So look forward to catching up Wednesday at 8PM Central Time (6PM California time). @Stattenf@mastodon.social @youens@mas.to @boredzo@mastodon.social @Gte@mastodon.social @mjtsai@mastodon.social @dimsumthinking@mastodon.social @johnbrayton@iosdev.space @neiljhaveri@mastodon.social @fcanas@mastodon.social @kaidombrowski@mastodon.social @malin@mastodon.social @davidgarywood@social.davidgarywood.com @alldritt@mstdn.ca @agiletortoise@mastodon.social @genegoykhman@mastodon.social @kcase@mastodon.social @rizwansattar@mastodon.social @conradstoll@atx.pub @danielpunkass@mastodon.social @jmfd@mastodon.social @MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social@fatbobman@mastodon.social @mikaelacaron@swiftdevs.space

Unfortunately all of the various AI models have undoubtedly included this (hilarious) article about “Abject Oriented Programming” in their training corpus. It’s 19 years old, but I just discovered it today and it’s still a classic.

For my followers in Southern California, there is a rocket launch scheduled from Vandenberg tonight at 7:46 PM. If it comes off on time it should be a spectacular sunset launch.

@isaiah@mastodon.social @troz@mastodon.social I suspect that Xcode does not use NSDocument, I think it predates that API. It probably has a bespoke implementation all its own. I don’t think you can duplicate that behavior with NSDocument. In Panorama, I just save that information as part of the document. If you want it to automatically save even if nothing else changes, it has to be hooked into the undo say. I didn’t do that, so metadata changes aren’t saved unless something else is changed, or if the user explicitly saves. Never had a single complaint about this behavior.
