@mike_bowler@hachyderm.io I used to drive up and down California a few times a year, and I used to get tired and drowsy over the course of that drive, often needing to stop a couple times to get out and stretch my legs. Yeah, you know where this is going. On one drive I brought my CO₂ monitor, watched the number go up (it was past 1000 in under an hour), and realized what the problem was. Turned up the fan and watched the number go back down. Never got drowsy on a long drive again.

And I sure do have to keep reminding people “tell people what to do, not just what not to do”… In the vein of not focusing people's attention in an unwanted direction, I'm reminded of this bit from the 1987 edition of the Apple Human Interface Guidelines (second paragraph):

@amyworrall Hmmm, is that true? I remember applications used to have different icons for stationery pads back in System 7. Would be surprised if that functionality got dropped. I have used it a handful of times. Actually now I think of it, I have a Retrobatch document I should make a stationery pad for.

Early Macs came with a “guided tour” split across a training program and an *audio cassette*: https://youtube.com/watch?v=iTNDm-LC_Js Because in 1984, nobody expected you to know how to use a mouse and GUI, but you did probably have some idea of how to use a tape player. And with that, and a good tutorial with practice sections, you could learn.
