@nixCraft@mastodon.social Well I saw one on a YT vid who'd taken someone else's code, used Clod to port it to another platform, then complained about the tokens he'd had to buy.
He has no idea if the code is any good, only that is seems to work.
Oh, and no mention if he got the original code writer's permission....
That's about the state of it, I reckon.

@glyph@mastodon.social We've all played with LLM coding. Why not? It's intellectual curiosity - something we have and LLMs don't.
The results are sometimes ok, depending on what you expect. Try asking it for assembly language code though, or an unusual language variant, and it falls over.
Then also consider - did you pay for it or us a free tier? And what was the on cost, the energy, water, and addition to the llm bubble size just by using it?
Then get back to real coding!

@tante@tldr.nettime.org The bit that is corrosive is the lack of content moderation, and the algorithmic way bad stuff is pushed. A well moderated push free version - like mastodon is for example - would be fine. Same with palantir. There's a sane, open source local (and hence well suited) set of tools that do what our dumb as fuck government is wanting to buy from palantir for the NHS. These things don't need to be corrosive or anti-democratic, with the right design.
