You can support my work at LiberaPay.
In my free time working on #MobileLinux mostly mainlining patches and fixing things.
Wanted to unwind this evening, so I pulled my trusty old Motorola Moto G4 out of the drawer. It had become completely useless running 32-bit Android 7.0 these days... and then, somehow, a Linux kernel accidentally fell onto it. 😄
Time to see how much life this old device still has left. Definitely it can run 64-bit Linux.

Today implemented Pixel 3 XL panel support, so now MDSS + GPU works, since the `sdm845-next-20260730-2` git tag. Since the similarity to the Pixel 3, Debian-based BengalOS and Mobial will run it soon.
🚀 Big milestone for the SHIFT 6MQ!
Just got it running through dockstation with:
✔️ keyboard
✔️ mouse
✔️ ethernet
✔️ ...DisplayPort output 🎉
Full external display support is now working, thanks to some hands-on implementation and a few extra patches on top of sdm845 Linux.
Plug it in, and you’ve got a proper desktop experience.
Running: https://codeberg.org/sdm845/linux + few custom patches which I'll try to finish today.
On a bit of a streak today 🔥
Work in progress, but already a big milestone: the camera sensor on my SHIFT6MQ is up and running 📷
Still a lot to refine, but seeing the first photo come through feels great. Sharing the very first shot taken on mainline Linux with it 👇

After long long time I just published a recap of my Linux kernel contributions from 6.7 to 7.0-rc6 — 76 commits authored, 155 total touches across the tree.
Highlights:
🟣 Snapdragon 845 device support (Pixel 3, OnePlus 6/6T, SHIFT6mq…)
🟢 Major drm/panel refactoring (sofef00, sw43408, new S6E3FC2X01)
🟡 IIO light sensor cleanup (AL3010, AL3320a, AL3000a)
🔴 Camera & CAMSS fixes, DT binding YAML conversions
Simple camera focus coil.
One power input (VDD). One chip.
Then usually one i2c 1.8V IOVDD (direct or level shifter).
And half of the kernel drivers mark i2c shifter as VDD and other way.
Hopefully we get out of this mess soon.
Good night.

Best of Sashiko:
Later, rmi_read_block() populates item->reg_size bytes. If a malicious
peripheral provides a descriptor with a small reg_size but sets multiple bits
in subpacket_map
"...malicious peripheral..." in the context of a touchscreen.
So ‒ you take your phone to a repair center and they install a malicious touchscreen...
Personally, I think the most "malicious" touchscreens are the aftermarket ones that claim to implement features they actually don't.
RE: @Tuxdoctor@mastodon.social
I see this effort as a perfect successor to the postmarketOS wiki tables, which relied on manually filled support levels.
It enables tracking across all distributions, different kernel versions, and patchsets.
It’s simple: you run a diagnostics app, and at the end, you can upload the results for everyone to see.

Těším se na vás na Installfestu 2026! 🙌
Finished migration from Conduit Matrix server to Tuwunel.
Big kudos to june and Tuwunel maintainers in general for taking care!

Linus Torvalds, Greg KH and other core members of the Linux project regularly confirm Android is Linux.
Can you please provide references?
I have feeling I paid € 22 for faster grepping of source code. I mean, I'm not complaining, it does search nicely in ugly codebases. So "Go AI!"

I was aiming the GOS claims, that Android mobile device can run on pure mainline.
Back to the distributions topic. I would probably use the wikipedia categories of description:
- Widely used GNU-based or GNU-compatible distributions (where for example postmarketOS isn't GNU-based, using musl, but retaining the typical distribution structure)
- Linux-kernel-based operating systems (e.g. AOSP, GOS etc)

Android has worked with mainline kernels for years.
Define WORKED. If you mean you boot into USELESS environment missing all essential features - YES. If you mean functional phone - then NO.
GKI, as I pointed out in the prev conversation where I didn't get any reply, exclude essentials parts such as SoC support from the kernel, thus the "mainline-part" of the kernel here is hardly useful.
This is not Linux as we know it.
