@mitchellh@hachyderm.io One of the best descriptions I've heard lately was that it feels like "losing coworkers to dementia" as people adopt it, where everyone feels like they know everything, but when you talk with them in person or there is a problem that needs to be fixed _now_ it becomes very clear that the capability to do that has atrophied basically completely

@jorge@hachyderm.io @deobald@fantastic.earth I agree that something needs to be done. I onboarded a friend a little while ago to Flathub, and then the policy changed halfway through. The app isn't "vibecoded", but if that policy were genuinely enforced the way it is written down (which, ofc, it is not) then it couldn't be published. Wish I had more time to work on Gatekeeper to try and speed this up, but I'm too busy with my dayjob.

If the EU commission really cared one bit about not being dependent on having access to proprietary US-owned LLMs that are only available via an API or with heavily restricted weights, it would start the process of blocking those services Union-wide so that open alternatives have a way to grow with the limited funding available

@jorge@hachyderm.io I agree with you, I'm not a fan of the current policy, and I made my thoughts pretty clear on that in the past too. In practice it's a slop gate, even if the text goes way further than that. From my understanding, this is really a function of people burning out during the review process, so we should probably try and fix that. Until that happens I don't see it changing. Snap will face the same issue eventually, as will anyone republishing software (Flathub is just the first stop for that)

@jorge@hachyderm.io From my understanding, the reason for that policy is a lack of reviewers. So working on the review process, doing reviews and working on the tooling for them (that's what I'm doing in the limited time I have atm) is probably the best bet

@jorge@hachyderm.io But yeah, fwiw KDE is always there as an escape hatch. I've been getting into more Qt things lately (miqt in Go) and while I strongly prefer the way the GNOME stack works around bindings etc. it's always a good idea to have some kind of contingency plan
