Has anyone made a child friendly device using #postmarketos ? Ie: no login process, only shows a limited number of curated apps, ideally can only go from showing app menu to one of the apps and back. The #Phosh interface and experience looks more complicated than I was hoping for.

I have created this very simplistic qml only app for my #postmarketos phone to test how qt/kde works with gps. I can get accurate position data - like in other gps-consuming apps, but I can't figure out how to get the sattelite information, at least not yet. I use the qml SatteliteSource object, but it is not valid using geoclue type, and I have no idea what to put as source for the nmea type, even though nmea is supported by my modem. #plasma_mobile #op6t #geoclue #nmea #modemmanager #kde

I can now go sailing with it too :p I think I got as far as possible for now though. Hopefully the qt people will add support for unix sockets, so the satellite info will be easily available (I suggested that), and also fix the data issues (I will suggest that). If/when that happens, I could make this an actual app, if anyone would be interrested. #postmarketOS #plasma_mobile #qml #qt #linuxonmobile

Gestern war ich bei den #Datenspuren und besuchte den sehr guten Vortrag von @knievelcat@fed.amazonawaws.com zum Thema wie man Mainline Linux auf sein Smartphone bekommt. Auf der Beitragsseite sind die Folien verlinkt. Die Idee eines gemeinsamen Treffens um an seinen Smartphones zu bauen finde ich gut. I recently bought a #oneplus6 and successfully installed #postmarketos on it. However, the phone died a few hours later (black screen, responding only to EDL commands), and I couldn't reset it, even with MSM Download Tool. I managed to flash Android back but it won't restart. Do you think it's an error related to my installation or just bad luck ? I really want to try #mobilelinux, so should I buy another OnePlus 6 or 6T and try again ?

If you run #postmarketOS on a phone with cell carrier service AND use MMS and/or Visual Voicemail (probably US-only), I would *really* use some help testing this patch: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/merge_requests/9005 You can test it with: sudo apk add mrtest && mrtest upgrade 9005 I want to make sure that MMS and VVM still work when connected to mobile data only & when connected to wifi+mobile. Feel free to bug me here or in chat if you want to test and have questions or feedback!

I stumbled upon #seeqie , a terminal-based image viewer that uses Sixel Graphics. Written in #bash. It works fine with #foot #wayland on my desktop, but also on my #postmarketOS #sxmo phone. Nice! https://cocz.net/seeqie/

Currently there is no way for applications to get or set the screen orientation on #linuxmobile #wayland. This results in things like not being able to take landscape pictures using the camera or games not having the correct orientation. I created a RFC wayland protocol to implement this. Mir ist das auch ein Dorn im Auge, daher möchte ich wirklich gerne mehr über #Fairphone und #Jolla sowie #Murena hören und wenn die Hardware dafür verfügbar ist auch gerne #postmarketos Ich mache mir etwas Sorgen um den Fortbestand von #Android falls Google komplett sich zurückzieht, daher finde ich die Alternativen um so wichtiger
