@FuturisticRobert@infosec.exchange Even if we consider that argument, then the AI agent would be an employee (or maybe a slave) of OpenAI, and thus OpenAI the corporation would IMHO still be responsible for its actions, and liable for any damages. @gatesvp@mstdn.ca @briankrebs@infosec.exchange @BLTpizza@mastodon.social

Replying to
@mcfly@milliways.social @bert_hubert@eupolicy.social That is an oversimplification. DigiD is run and hosted by Logius, a Dutch government organization, in a government datacenter, but it is hosted on a platform that is supplied, administered and maintained by Solvinity (in said government datacenter). So DigiD is not owned nor run by Solvinity, but given they supply and administer the *underlying* platform, there are some risks inherent to Kyndryl buying Solvinity.

@rotnroll666@mastodon.social Given projects that really need higher limits can get them, I don't think this will lead to real problems. And commercial parties that want to release a lot (or just want to support Maven Central), can get that Pro subscription.

@rotnroll666 @gjmwoods And of course, Oracle is run by their legal department ;). Given the current US jurisprudence that pretty much says that AI output can't be copyrighted, and if not clearly marked may "infect" the copyright of the entire product, they probably don't want it anywhere near the product. Oracle may not care about your IP, they do care about theirs.

I have just released Jaybird 6.0.5 and Jaybird 5.0.12. Jaybird is the JDBC driver for the Firebird database system. See https://lawinegevaar.nl/firebird/jaybird_6.0.5_and_Jaybird_5.0.12_released.html for details

@rotnroll666 @gjmwoods That's probably because Oracle is very large, so the people writing this AI policy are probably as far removed from the AI-side of the business as can be.

@ShadSterling @mjd Code review _can_ find bugs, consider code that has tests, but both the code itself and their tests do the wrong thing (e.g. not what was actually specified, or what was intended).

@bellinghman @kevlin I have worked on transactional emails and push messages that communicate this type of information to users. Communicating time ranges like this, even with the "fake" precision is the easiest to understand for most people. From a business perspective, it also prevents unnecessary calls, and complaints, to customer service. Being more vague and less specific, even it's mathematically more correct, is not "better", neither for the customer nor the company communicating it.

@kevlin *) And even though the window is very wide, it generally isn't fake. In a lot of cases it's based on the actual historic performance of deliveries to your address or neighbourhood. If it's so wide, it usually means the delivery van covers a wide area and the actual route differs too much between days. For my address, deliveries through PostNL are usually reported with an initial window of one or two hours, and updates (through their app) do get more specific and accurate.

Replying to
@kevlin Another reason for it being wide, is if they can't plan/allocate ahead in which specific delivery van/delivery route it will be put for delivery, so they use estimates for the two (or more) most likely to be used.

@scalzi I built a new system last year, and lets just say I didn't expect the 96 GB I didn't really need to be my most profitable investment of the year (in theory then, as I don't intend to sell).

@ChuckMcManis@chaos.social @mattwilcox@mstdn.social You can have protocols that when you register, that any previous registration is cancelled (and no, such protocols don't necessarily depend on computers, that is basically the way it worked in my country when you moved between municipalities even before computers, your new muni sent a letter to your old muni to unregister you and request the historical record). Sure, it requires knowing where the person was previously registered, but that is a solvable problem.

@eje_koster@mastodon.nl @mcfly@milliways.social @bert_hubert@eupolicy.social Maybe Solvinity uses Equinix in general, but DigiD is hosted by the government, see https://www.logius.nl/actueel/digid-en-blijft-nederlands ("Het platform waar DigiD op draait wordt geleverd door Solvinity en draait in een overheidsdatacentrum." or "The platform running DigiD is supplied by Solvinity and runs in a government datacenter").
logius.nl
