@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A8. Looking for photos of the 48V USB-PD thing I found this photo that I've probably shared in the past. But I like it so here it is again :)
Drums'r'Us sell various sized used plastic drums that I put food etc in. There's probably someone like that in your city.

@ascentale@sfba.social @meganL@mas.to @bikenite@fedigroups.social A7: I'd really like a cargo trailer hire place, especially if they had one of those German power-assisted 3 wheel trailers. But it would be a really niche business and likely located unreasonably far away from me so I suspect I'd use it at most once. And I'm the load-carrying extreme! So not really a viable business.
There are a few trailers I have built in the community, including one with a 1m x 1.5m load platform that I gave a bike co-op. See pic :)

#Train to #Newcastle this morning is a real variety show. We have people with luggage who got on at the airport then changed trains when I did, people whose bicycles fit the weird bike holders on #Marayong units, someone with a double bass in a soft case, a blind dude with a service dog, and a woman who got on the wrong train and has been on the phone ever since waiting to get onto a train back to Central.
Fun times.

@wdormann@infosec.exchange @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I love how all the "stoves for Africa" programmes go on about how awful burning stuff inside your house is.
Maybe some African charity could run a "stoves for America" programme? Maybe alongside their "bicycles for America" one?

@ascentale@sfba.social @MarkBrigham@universeodon.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2: someone built an app called SnapSendSolve that filters your reports to the appropriate body, so you can just say "this paving here, photo(s), needs work" and they send it off to the council, utility, toll road, etc body responsible.
That works pretty well, albeit with the usual delay you expect from infrastructure work (especially complete repaving).
Occasionally urgent smaller stuff gets done same week.

Car horns are loud, they have to be to penetrate the sealed box and the distracted attention of the moronist being honked at.
This is how you get me to buy a truck or train horn and ride round with ear defenders on. You want honking? I'm honking.

Blaxland Road Campbelltown is one obvious one. It's a busy stroad, there's zero bike facilities and there's a linear park parallel with no path at all. At the end is a "cyclists please ride into this kerb" corner with ~3m of missing bike lane. Red line thru park is my proposed path :)

@IrrationalMethod@social.coop @streetmeme@cycle.town these days with lithium batteries widely available it's pretty easy. The old days of needing 10kg of lead batteries to drive a 24V truck horn at 20+ amps are long gone.
But back in the day I had much better noise makers on the bike... there's a random MTB with the front wheel removed on the load platform but you can see the speaker box.

Very much this for me. Especially on a recumbent, and especially when racing a recumbent. Or just riding long days on one (my best/worst touring was 6x10+ hour days once because I was in the mood and just hammered hem out. In Australia. Where you can ride 1500km and still be on the same road, in the same state 😎)

@mike@fosstodon.org reminds me of Malcolm Turnbull in Australia. Before he gained power "the National Broadband Network will be late, over budget and slower than promised".
Once he became PM he made sure that was true. Mostly by buying the legacy copper networks from telcos desperate to be rid of them and "at market rates" {cough}, then forcing NBNCo (a govt owned corp) to use those instead of laying fibre everywhere
This is the guy famous for saying "the laws of Australia override the laws of mathematics"

@glyph@mastodon.social it's definitely the short term future, especially if you count sheer volume of code produced.
Whether that code reaches even zero value is a completely different question. I suspect there's some very good code being written by agents, but a lot more poor to terrible code being written and used by people who either DGAF or are maliciously complying with management demands.

But then Elon did promise to end world hunger and when the quote arrived he went very quiet and never paid up. It was only ~$6B IIRC, which even at the time was less than 5% of his wealth.

@MarkBrigham@universeodon.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social @ascentale@sfba.social It needs specific support for each city/area it works in, because it really does redirect reports to a plethora of relevant bodies. They say "anywhere in Australia and Aotearoa" but the idea can obviously be generalised.
Recipients have to pay for extra features, I'm not sure of the exact model. But some councils always reply "please use our website" then get shitty when the report should go to someone else. That's why SSS *exists*.

@mjd I dunno, the better managers I've experienced have mostly seen their job as making it easier for other people to do stuff.
I suspect my current manager has a priority list somewhere, I just have a bunch of assigned issues in a track. And weekly (ish) chats about what I'm doing, what I'm supposed to be doing, and things he hopes I might do in the future.
New task: email @simontatham to compliment him on the usefulness of pUtty :)

A kiwi classic about the "forgotten" history of Aotearoa. I can't not post it.
In 1846 in the Hutt Valley I said
Fighting broke out between the British and the Maori
And more than one settler on disputed land
Was killed when the Maori fought the British Plan
Lyrics https://genius.com/10147208
Worth knowing that Nga Tamatoa in the first line was also a Maori language promotion group that the Posse would have grown up with.

From the masters of reimagined old style pop songs, "Chartist Anthem". Remember when universal suffrage was a controversial idea? Oh. Um. Well, anyway, here's a song.

They have so many of these that it's hard to pick one. "Day the nazi died" is a bit of a crowd favourite and is also about history (remember when being a nazi was controversial?).

About Australia's genocidal history of stealing aboriginal children and re-educating them into British ways. Or just enslaving them, because yeah we did that. Sorry. (Tiddas also have their sorry song "sorry means you don't want it to happen again")

1% of people buying a house then their circumstances change and they move is entirely reasonable. What are they supposed to do, sell up, pay a 20% deposit plus at least $50,000 in stamp duty to buy a different house? Even if they did, that would just generate "1500 house flipped used scheme"
But sure, let's make it so those people are forced to live there no matter what. Very fair and reasonable.

Music is such a part of my life that I could list dozens of tracks in this playlist (eg Tiddas last week). And so many musicians are activists that there's a lot those tracks out there. Plus popular artists like Aurora put out songs like "The Seed" and apparently some of those are just pop music now :)
