Masto.host

Some Mastodon servers have been seeing sudden spikes in remote media storage over the past few months, caused by bots crawling public pages and forcing Mastodon to re-download old media. I wrote a short post on what's happening and how to reduce it: https://masto.host/sudden-spikes-in-remote-media-storage/

I will start installing Mastodon v4.6.3 on Masto.host. There will be about 15 seconds of downtime during the upgrade. Changelog: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.6.3

Upgrade installed! Everyone running on Masto.host is now on Mastodon v4.5.9. Any issues or questions, please let me know. Thanks 🐘

Upgrade installed! Everyone running on Masto.host is now on Mastodon v4.5.8. Any issues or questions, please let me know. Thanks 🐘

Upgrade installed! Everyone running on Masto.host is now on Mastodon v4.5.7. Any issues or questions, please let me know. Thanks 🐘

The patch is installed! Any issues or questions, please let me know. Thanks 🐘

Upgrade installed! Everyone running on Masto.host is now on Mastodon v4.5.6. Any issues or questions, please let me know. Thanks 🐘

The Masto.host website and dashboard are back online. The server required manual intervention after becoming stuck during the reboot. Once back up, the kernel update that triggered the reboot proved to have compatibility issues with the server, so I had to revert to the previous version. Everything is now running normally. Sorry for the unexpected downtime. Thanks 🐘

Maintenance on Database server 11 is complete, and all is back to normal. There was about 10 minutes of downtime. If you notice any problem, please let me know. Thanks 🐘

The reboot on the website and dashboard server is not going as smoothly as expected -- the server got stuck and needs a manual intervention from the data center. Hopefully it should be back online soon. Again, no instances are impacted. All hosted services are running normally.

@dtl@8bitorbust.info @edmond@vael.town The best alternative I found was to disable public explore/trends page: https://mastodon.social/@mastohost/116597007400766713

@j@janerationx.social I should have left this reboot for next week, but I thought, "It's 5 minutes, what could go wrong?" Here we are, almost an hour later. Nothing is cooperating this week.

@bkuhn Thank you so much 😊

@metin@graphics.social Yes, if the Mastodon dev team decides that they are ready, then it should be released on v4.6 🤞

@quaff@thecanadian.social If you like bash scripts 😜

@cassolotl@eldritch.cafe Yes. Silly me do this at the end of a Friday. But anyway, it's sorted now. The weekend is ahead. Thanks :)

@joshua@social.mbbc.us It's not impossible but only when it goes well 😅

@scuttlebutt@farticle.cloud 😂 next time I will keep that in mind 😜

@DiogoConstantino Probably a browser extension is causing the problem.

@aras@mastodon.gamedev.place Thanks! A bit of a pain to migrate, but decided it was time to do it.

@DiogoConstantino So, it's a problem on your end. Just tried it to search for that user on Masto.pt and had no issue. Can you try a different browser?

@johnefrancis@cosocial.ca 😜

@darnell@one.darnell.one 🤗

@DiogoConstantino Strange. Haven't got any reports regarding that. Honestly have no idea what could be causing it. If you try again, does the problem still happen?

@DiogoConstantino 😂
