@golgaloth@writing.exchange or lockpicks @alice@lgbtqia.space ?

@cmconseils@mastodon.social this is about ai

Before attending #fedimtl I always treated mastodon as one big thing. I understood that there are connected instances but it's thanks to the talk @saskia@backend.newsmast.org gave that I've started to see it as a collection of communities who can talk to each other rather than servers on a network.

@alice@lgbtqia.space come for the bare pics, stay for the bear pics

@JulianOliver@mastodon.social yeah i had to factory reset my phone recently and forgot to install an adblocker for the first little while and it was horrible

@afewbugs@social.coop @leberschnitzel@existiert.ch @alice@lgbtqia.space You quickly pick the front door lock and make your way inside. You stop to pet the tabby cat snaking around your ankles. As you do so you notice another door, probably to a basement, with three padlocks on it. Do you: Continue toward the back door - turn to page 73. Get to work on those padlocks - turn to page 15. Focus on the kitty - turn to page 51.

@ColinTheMathmo@mathstodon.xyz there's a statue in Madrid dedicated to this behaviour

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social @merrdiff.bsky.social I love that people latched on to this as some good news in a sea of awful

@saskia@backend.newsmast.org @evan@cosocial.ca like this crowd https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/may/12/florida-students-boo-graduation-speaker-ai

@sean@scoat.es I didn't see you until you announced yourself after Evan's presentation and we were heading out the door at that point, next year!

@georgepenney@sunny.garden any idea why they're called op shops?

@Spaceways@toot.community oh yes I think that might be it, thanks!

@ElwoodCity@mstdn.ca @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty@thecanadian.social I don't think you can share tasks with an external calendar, but I believe anytype has a built in calendar. I haven't explored that though, I primarily use it for shopping lists, notes and trip planning.

@fehrtrade@toot.community PSA: if you're a British citizen you can sign this, you don't have to be in the UK.

@kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot @sticklandtim@mastodon.green I tried buying from hive but they only accept "UK registered credit cards", and I tried buying from bookshop.org but they only ship to the US. What's the best way for a Canadian to get hold of your book?

Re-watching #NorthernExposure and remembering than whenever Marilyn speaks, everyone should listen.

I've been taking an Open University course online on rewilding and all the video material for the course is on YouTube. It made me wonder if any universities are using #peertube for their content, it seems like an ideal use case for it.

Happy Outside Fucking day to those who celebrate it. https://genius.com/Jonathan-coulton-first-of-may-lyrics

I already miss Laura Winter, this new presenter is awful #f1

Managed to divert a "you must use Claude" edict to a "let's spin up ollama and try out an open source model" today, so half a win? #ai #noai

Apologies for the terrible photo but can anyone identify this #bird? It has a long beak, a red neck and a black stripe on its chest

@randahl@mastodon.social why do you love mastodon.social?

@kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot @sticklandtim@mastodon.green had to ship to my mother's place in England to avoid prohibitive shipping costs, but order placed! Looking forward to reading it.

@tuban_muzuru@beige.party @shadow53@floss.social why are you offering llm techniques to someone who obviously doesn't want to use an llm?

@tuban_muzuru@beige.party @shadow53@floss.social I've lived through 40 years of the same and nothing has disillusioned me as much as the llm nightmare we're living through right now.

@b0rk@social.jvns.ca they're a commitment. i needed to learn Unix in a hurry before the days of the web (or the public internet really) so went through every man page in section 1, trying things out as I went. I learned a huge amount from them but at first it was really tough to get my head around the way they were written. Being familiar with your pager's functionality definitely helps. I'm sad these days when a command doesn't have a man page, using -h or --help is always my second impulse. I recently discovered that the man page for ack is the source code for ack, which is truly obnoxious.

@ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty@thecanadian.social you might consider using https://newmode.net for your email campaigns, it makes contacting local reps really easy and has solid coverage at all levels of government. Full disclosure: I work for New/Mode.

@Nead@social.vivaldi.net still a fantastic photo despite the lack of lightning

@evan@cosocial.ca why was it cancelled?

@TheBreadmonkey@beige.party yeah it's really tough, I've basically decided at this point that my next job will not be in IT, but that's an easier decision for me because I'm not far from retirement.

#goblin Moog

@ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty@thecanadian.social @ElwoodCity@mstdn.ca I use Anytype for keeping notes and lists, very happy with it.

So after an android update last night my phone would not unlock and i ended up doing a factory reset. I came really close to taking the opportunity to install grapheneos but chickened out at the last minute. I did install as much as I could from fdroid though.

@elena@aseachange.com @leslore@zeroes.ca I can't provide a full list but if anyone needs the email addresses of specific Canadian politicians I can probably provide it.

@Crystal_Fish_Caves@mstdn.party @NWBison@mastodon.social Dallas?

@davidnjoku@mastodon.world I chose "often" assuming texting counts, otherwise it would be "rarely"

Asked alexa to play some Awolnation while i cooked dinner. We're ten songs in and so far not a single Awolnation track (but lots of Of Monsters and Men)
