I'm looking for professionals in a variety of areas to interview for my upcoming book, Recovering After Gen AI.
With their expertise, they should hopefully have theories or educated guesses as to what might happen in the wake of Gen AI's demise.
So obviously, clankers/techbros need not apply.
If you are in one of these professions or know people who are, please let me know:
- Psychologists (in regards to cognitive and psychological harm)
- Engineers (dealing with abandoned datacentres, e-waste, damaged electrical and computing infrastructure, tech debt, related topics)
- Technicians (dealing with abandoned datacentres, e-waste, damaged electrical and computing infrastructure, tech debt, related topics)
- Developers and IT (tech debt, bugs, related areas)
- Sociologists (societal harm done by chatbots, AI image slop "revenge porn" and CSAM, loss of job skills in the population, related areas)
- Economists (no University of Chicago types, please, and Marxists preferred)
- Artists and other creatives (harm done to culture by Gen AI)

"If it was opt in, nobody would opt in."
(Don't they mean, if it was opt out?)
Mozilla could have said the exact same thing. And yet, a lot of gullible people here were singing their praises for their quickly coming up with a lie about how they'd implement an "AI killswitch" when they faced public outcry for announcing that they're becoming an "AI first browser" last December.
Ask yourself this:
-
If they were truly serious about the "killswitch," why did they just blurt it out in response to the backlash that obviously surprised them?
-
People I know who actually audit web browser behavior soon found that the "killswitch" really didn't do much, only disabling a few subtle things "AI" in their browser is allowed to do, at best. Why would such an evil fucking "feature" that's rapidly accelerating climate destruction and fucking many different facets of modern life up... be opt out?
-
Why the fuck would such a nasty fucking thing be in a web browser in the first place?
-
And considering all that, a lot of the fools who sung Mozilla's praises for the supposed "killswitch" also saw how their reps on Mastodon tried to pretend that it's necessary for translation. To deliberately confuse people about such a nasty fucking "feature" that's sucking all the fresh water out of the Earth, and by no coincidence, also gives the most evil shitheads on Earth easier access to your sensitive data, all while encouraging you to delegate your thinking to their technofascist slop bot. And after all that, you still trust them?
I know exactly what's going on. Because Google deliberately destroyed their search, it fucked up Mozilla's monetization model for Firefox. Which was to receive payment from Google to make Google Search default.
New CEO walks in, and probably wears invisible Saville Row suits, surrounded by sycophants. "Google's all in on the torment nexus, so now, so are we! AI FIRST BROWSER! Papa needs a second yacht!"
I don't know about you, but if a CEO announces loudly and proudly that they're jumping on a massively evil bandwagon, completely changing the stated purpose of their web browser while being certain doing this shit will make him even wealthier...
I wouldn't be so naive to assume that their "killswitch" was anything but a lie blurted out in panic, to be designed to function as a placebo for gullible fools.
But then again, I'm not a sucker ripe for exploitation as society crumbles further and further.
Yes, I know this is about Twitch. I'm about to cancel my account there. Thanks for the heads up.
@davidgerard@circumstances.run
PS: I know that @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net devs are working hard to keep evil shit from Chrome out of their browser, and I'm using Vivaldi right now. And that also applies to Vanadium. Same goes for @librewolf@chaos.social and @tor when it comes to Firefox.
Until we have an engine that's totally independent of Google and Mozilla, those are your best web browser options. Vanadium is the Chrome fork that's exclusive to GrapheneOS, but LibreWolf is available for the vast majority of desktop OSes, and Vivaldi and Tor are available on nearly all widely used desktop and mobile OSes.

Look back at my Mastodon history and you'll see I was never fooled by Mozilla's "AI killswitch." I was warning people not to be fooled, to not trust Mozilla, and people yelled at me.
-
"We're now an AI first browser!"
-
"Boo!"
-
"Umm. Okay. We will deploy an 'AI killswitch' by early 2026! The Gen AI technofascist torment nexus is default in Firefox and opt out, but it totally will work, guys! Even though AI slop is our new revenue model now that Google Search doesn't really exist anymore (who were paying us to make Google default search in Firefox)."
-
"Yay! We trust you now! We love you, Mozilla!"
An evil, planet destroying monstrosity that encourages people to delegate their thinking to a technofascist bot that says there are 27 Rs in strawberry shouldn't even be an "option" in a web browser. Any company even considering that is evil.
RE: https://mastodon.social/@JulianOliver/116922689814829744
People should just ditch everything Mozilla, period.
The number of total fucking suckers falling for the supposed "killswitch" in Firefox horrifies me.
-
Evil thing shouldn't even be an option, let alone opt out.
-
Do you really think the new Mozilla CEO would declare "we're an AI first browser!' and then not shove it down your throat?! Were you born yesterday or does acknowledging that the vast majority of tech companies are technofascist disturb you too much to face reality?!
Yes, even scrappy little upstarts turn technofascist. Activision was originally a handful of Atari 2600 developers who simply wanted credit for their programming work. Mozilla being founded by former Netscape devs wanting to do something less corporate means fuck all. Google was a scrappy little project by a couple of Stanford students on campus and their motto used to be "don't be evil."
Aschenbrenner bet everything on AI — and lost
"'AI is just a tool', yeah, well, so is meth. Several militaries distributed it to their front-line soldiers to enable them to fight for longer. It's also an FDA approved medication for treatment-resistant ADHD.
Yet if I gave all my employees unlimited free meth, created a leaderboard where whoever uses the most meth each month gets a bonus, then fired everyone who refused to engage in mandatory meth smoking, I think the investors might have some question."
The tool is stupid, and not for whatever the fuck you're doing with it."
