What if I make a photography project where I just photos over years with the same device running postmarketOS and you can see the progression (or regression!) of drivers in real-time.

@mary@chaos.social @mcc@mastodon.social There was an effort to do this called open-slopware, but the creator got harassed by LLM apologists into deleting it and leaving open-source. After that, people who had local forks put them up and began working on their own versions. I was dissatisfied with the layout of the previous version, so myself and a few other contributors to open-slopware created https://codeberg.org/ai-alternatives/llm-afflicted-software hoping to avoid the pitfalls of the previous repo. It's not perfect, but it is chugging along slowly.

If your device does have a maintainer, but you want to keep up with it's development and pitch in to help with packaging, consider adding yourself as a Co-Maintainer. The more the merrier!!!
And you don't necessary need technical knowledge to maintain. As long as you have the device and are willing to learn, adding yourself is never a bad idea.

It was inherited from Dutch a long time ago, but has fallen out of favor in modern times, with "alpine" replacing it. It is only used as an adjective though, usually referring to animals or features of the Alpine mountain range. It is perfectly correct to say "the alpen snow" instead of "the alpine snow", just a bit old-fashioned.

- yaml instead of markdown so its machine-readable (I want to develop a tool that checks your system for llm software).
- Requiring signoffs and signing of commits to limit troll submissions through annoyance (LLM apologists were brigading open-slopware with genAI MRs and one got in)
- More carefully vetting sources and reasons for submissions so only actually "bad" projects are added.

@CalcProgrammer1@mastodon.social @fun@berkeley.edu.pl Sadly, the iPad Pro is one of the few Apple devices you can't run postmarketOS on. We are able to run on the iPhone X and lower because of the checkm8 exploit, and we are able to run on the M-Series Mac's because of Asahi Linux's work, but anything else, Apple has total control over.
(Small nitpick, Apple does not lock their bootloaders. Their bootloaders have no lock state since they aren't made to boot anything other than signed Darwin images.)
More games need a preset southpaw mode for left-handed people. I'm used to playing with the default config with a few modifications, but on PC I have a left-handed mouse, so I always have to change all of the controls...

@Foxboron People make bad decisions all the time, but for some reason FOSS users like to strawman devs into the devil over them. Nobody is faultless.
Edit: I do also see the irony of me strawmanning general FOSS users as reactionary. I mostly just mean the wider "community". At least, the vocal portion.

@JWShost @blinry @postmarketOS Really depends on the UI that is used. The most popular (Phosh, Plasma Mobile, GNOME Mobile, etc.) all follow the general premise of having everything you expect out of a normal smartphone be GUI, and then anything more complex usually is console-only. That isn't a hard and fast rule though. Usually people are happy to add configuration for something that used to require commands.

@agx The best part is that it was pushed with an option for feedback because, get this, they are testing a feature in a release instead of testing it normally. Then, when people obviously didn't like corpospeakifying the issues tab, they doubled down and said its staying like that, even though they asked for feedback.
Ignore that the feedback "work item" is just LLMs talking to each other with the devs ignoring the actual users. I feel bad for them having to work there...

Electro-Swing artists try to make an original song and not just take an existing swing song and apply filters and midi.

Luckily, booting and reexploiting iBoot doesn't cause any data loss, so anything on the device (e.g. a distro rootfs) stays safe. There are ideas to shim the poweroff function in Linux to instead enter a very deep sleep so iBoot is never interacted with, so powering back on normally can be mimicked.

@fossdd I've heard good things about remarkable. Seeing other people in my classes use it a lot. I personally live by my rocketboot with erasable pens (doesn't smudge, which is important when you are left-handed), but that's physical.
