Upgraded all of my working arm64 #postmarketOS devices to the latest #phosh #systemd edge! Also wrote a small script to do all my preferred app installs and some configurations (my custom squeekboard layout, autostart TouchpadEmulator, set default scaling to 200%) to make reinstalling less painful.

Success! I've installed a new battery in my #OnePlus 6 running #postmarketOS. Old battery capacity reported around 0.5Ah, new battery out of the box reports 2.96Ah and was around 50% charged, so letting it charge up now. Used a hair dryer to weaken the adhesive and @iFixit@mastodon.social suction cup and picks to get the back off. After removing the back, swapping the battery is quite simple.

I designed a PCB! I ordered some #RP2040 Zero (Waveshare clones) because I didn't feel like soldering a bunch of tiny SMD components when a tiny module with them already soldered could be had for under $3. Just needed to route everything out to connectors to make a functional ARGB hub, which could also act as an ARGB controller from the RP2040-Zero's USB port (though it is meant to be powered from the incoming ARGB connector).

Wow! The QR code scanning verification feature of the Fractal Matrix client JUST WORKS on OnePlus 6T on #postmarketOS! It verified the OnePlus 6's login. Didn't even need to use focus control, just focused by moving the phone closer.

@lemizy @Sheril See Technology Connections' latest video on the topic. It does not have to be "VERY expensive" to charge an EV at home. You can slow charge using a standard US 120V outlet, you can repurpose a dryer outlet. Most people could get by with level 1 (120V) charging for their daily commutes. The bigger issue is that EV charging is not available to most renters in the US and even providing some 120V outlets would go a long way to alleviate this.

@Aiyame@tiggi.es postmarketOS for me, as it uses mainline kernels as much as possible, is fully FOSS, and is a lot like a Linux desktop OS shrunk down to a phone. Unfortunately not daily driveable due to call audio and camera quality issues, so I still have an Android phone as well. I use the web portals for banking even on Android so I'm not locked to bootloader locked, stock Google Android.

@whynothugo@fosstodon.org Calling MTP niche but network file transfer normal? MTP is the standard for USB file transfer on mobile devices... USB network is still an option but MTP works out of the box on any modern OS, it's not exactly niche.

After like 40 minutes of mashing the checkout button it finally went through. This is not a fun game, Steam. Why say they are sold out when they're "restocked" 10 minutes later. You did not just go manufacture a new batch in 10 minutes. Just take preorders and ship them as they're available rather than this frustrating crap.

@Phosphenes@glasgow.social @Chrisgodwin@mastodon.social @gamingonlinux@mastodon.social The entire PC hardware ecosystem is extremely inflated because of the AI nonsense. RAM prices up 400% since end of 2025, SSD prices at least 200-300%. GPUs surprisingly don't seem to be hit has hard as RAM and storage but they are also inflated. The whole PC ecosystem is being threatened by these disaster data centers, not to mention the damage they cause to the environment.

@fun@berkeley.edu.pl I would love to see #postmarketOS on an iPad Pro with an M series chip but alas Apple locks their bootloaders despite Mac computers with the exact same chip being unlocked. The iPad is a very nice piece of hardware but it's ruined by its stupid toy OS.

@flaky @gamingonlinux The same happened for the Steam Deck. It happened again for the Steam Deck OLED. It happened again now with the Steam Controller. It will happen again with the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. It seems like they haven't bothered to do anything about it. They always underestimate demand and their servers always crap out under the load.

Trying to send string data over an ARGB controller output to set the sizes of the splitter channels. I'm trying to send a string in the format "ARGBSPLIT,0=xx,DONE" where xx is the number of LEDs on splitter channel 0 (eventually to add more LED channels to the string). I've gone through with an ASCII table and manually encoded all the characters into LED color values in OpenRGB and can parse the LED count on the RP2040 side!

@linmob@fosstodon.org @postmarketOS@social.treehouse.systems Squeekboard's customizable layouts are the reason I'm sticking with it. I don't care for modern mobile keyboards. I don't want autocorrect, prediction, swiping, etc. I want numbers, alphabet, arrows (all four of them), ctrl, alt, shift, tab, escape, delete, f1-f12, and everything else that a normal terminal user might desire always and readily available, and to that end have made and tweaked my own orthogonal squeekboard layout over the years.

@DrewNaylor@mastodon.online Agreed, on screen keyboards should have a standard way to communicate with the rest of the UI including registering themselves to a list of keyboards that can be switched through. I would love to try GNOME Mobile but its OSK is too limiting for me, I would love to use Squeekboard + GNOME.

@ZiesMcDoom@mastodon.au I haven't tried, but I believe there is early, hacky support for some older iPhones. Problem seems to be that they can't be permanently flashed yet AFAIK, the postmarketOS Linux kernel has to be externally booted each powerup from what I've read due to having to use a bootloader exploit. All the devices I have have an unlocked bootloader.

@oausi @iFixit I took most of the old adhesive off. There's a light tackiness that is still holding the cover on, but it's not a very solid hold. I have it in a case so it's not a huge deal, but the batteries came with little strips of double sided tape that I'll try once I've done more battery tests to make sure it's good. I'd like the cover to be easy to remove in the future so I don't want to use too strong of glue.

@tradasia@mastodon.social Unfortunately, the only way seems to be to flash Android. Maybe we can get it to boot using fastboot and twrp without removing pmOS, but the stock kernel needs to be booted to charge the pen until someone ports over the charger driver from downstream.

@steamdeckhq@mastodon.world Steam once again proving they have no clue how to launch a product. Sold out within 30 minutes and 20 of those minutes spent fighting the collapsing payment processing servers that keep you in this infuriating limbo of maybe you got one, maybe you got screwed. Try entering your credit card info again while the clock keeps ticking onwards. How did they not learn a damn thing from the Steam Deck launch?

@earsmeardius@mastodon.social I'm using OSHPark this time as my dad just used them for a project he was doing after PCBWay was going to be too expensove due to the orange idiot's tariffs. I used PCBWay several years ago and they were great, but my dad's OSHPark boards also came out great so I'll go with the cheaper option. I'll probably 3D print a case for it.

@valpackett@social.treehouse.systems I've had Steam installed on this tablet in the past, though I recently had to reinstall as I made a really stupid mistake with chmod and screwed up all the filesystem permissions. I was able to play HL2, Subnautica, Portal, Tomb Raider 2013, Skyrim on it to varying levels of playability. It's reasonably powerful. Too bad they're very difficult to find and you have to go through Xiaomi's horrible bootloader unlock process to get it to a useful state.
