Hi.
I'm Ben.
For fun I ride my bike around Berlin and build pretty things with LEDs and microcontrollers. I like dogs and trains. I'm also interested in programming languages.
Unfortunate toucher of other people's concurrent code. Co-ordinator of various volunteers.

holy fuck this variant of vi keeps reindenting the line of python code I'm editing so that it isn't inline with the other lines in the same block
PLEASE JUST EDIT MY TEXT LIKE I PRESS THE BUTTONS FOR
there has been a torn sign in #Berlin Hauptbahnhof on a bit of wall ever since we ran a refugee reception centre there in the first half of 2022. it said "food" in ukrainian. said wall has now been removed to allow access to the new temporary platform 22 (which like all berlin infrastructure projects is years delayed)
that's probably the last physical manifestation of our refugee centre (although our refugee work continues in and around the station).
Goodbye sign.
what I wanted to be doing: recurrent neural networks on laser distance matrix data
what I am doing: debugging i2c
vi people - yeah sure unix experience is annoying enough having two clipboards, lets add a third
this is so bonkers
even though its been this way for years
dont tell me to reconfigure vi i regularly use fresh/shared VMs
i have updated the DNS because it only takes a few seconds
the C model of what should be a warning rather than an error forever does my head in
> warning: excess elements in array initializer
> (I always use status += function(). Then every frew calls I check the status. Saves a lot of code.)
exceptions are for pussies, lets use an integer monoid instead
new conception of __del__ destructors as monkeys paw
you *MUST* pre-order your spaceagon (in the dogs must be carried sense)
another day another academic paper with no date on it forcing me to take maxyear over the references and add one. come on fuckers this is even easier than not making it be pdf.
I have retreated to the park for one euro beer.
rather than setting up DNS for this "temporary" VM, i have to keep going back to an old timesheet with journal entries and find where I wrote down the IP address
It's World #Swift Day!
Here's a scientific workflow system I used to work on called Swift (2006-2009)
Eventually it got redone in Python and became @ParslProject@mast.hpc.social
being forced to learn more cmake than i want to
but hopefully the bits after that are fun
today in frustrating online programmes:
i) what day is the session you just told me is at 9am?
ii) can I go to that session with the ticket type I purchased?
(yes I understand the point of the website is i) to sell me a ticket, ii) to sell my data to vendors, but come on surely someone organised an event before?)
