With more than 10 years of professional software development I like to help teams and projects improve their documentation. Because I do belief that we should generate documentation. Not write it.

I'm building tools and libraries to help you with just that, so you don't have to. And can focus on what matters... your product.

The fun thing of working on a #documentation project like @phpdoc@phpc.social? you can create extensions to document your own work using @phpdoc@phpc.social. My newest extension? An extension to document the directives supported by @phpdoc@phpc.social. https://github.com/phpDocumentor/phpDocumentor/pull/4191/changes This is a level of inception I never hit before.

If everything is going according to plan I will finally meet up with @supergarv@phpc.social next week. After working together on different documentation related projects for many years. We finally found an option to meet in real life. I'm looking forward to it.

RE: @phpdoc@phpc.social

For me personally this is a great release, not just because of all the improvements that are visible at a user level, but also a ton of improvements internally have been made. Which will allow me to continue the development of future versions.

@jrf_nl@phpc.social @ramsey@phpc.social the responses of the "authors" are even worse. I closed multiple pr's last months something I didn't do for a very long time. But the arguments against closing are so offending you that I have been thinking about stopping with reviews. I nearly lost the joy in working on my projects. Because of the shit posts I got.

@derickr@phpc.social But I think this one will give you an impression: https://github.com/phpDocumentor/guides/pull/1295 Especially the talking with a bot, not a human... Long walls of text that say nothing. And maybe something I take too personal, the suggestion that "I don't care". Because all the time they spend... Talking about walls: https://github.com/TYPO3-Documentation/render-guides/pull/1143 In the moment, responses might feel like an attack, but reading them back. Most of this is just a waist of time. @jrf_nl@phpc.social @ramsey@phpc.social

Inspired by @sebastian@phpc.social at DPC, where he talked about "From events to insights" I prototyped something based on symfony messenger to collect saga (series of events) in my team's codebase.

The insights I got were very helpful to review our architecture. While the idea of #livingDocumentation isn't new to me. I never realized I was already so close to a working concept.

Thanks for your talk @sebastian@phpc.social

@afilina@phpc.social @Crell@phpc.social in my perspective psalm does a better job for legacy projects. It still requires a lot of work. But they have more annotations to understand the legacy. I did introduce it in 10 year old code bases. But I have to admit, introducing the tool wasn't most of the work. Preparing the management was way more work.

@flowcontrol@phpc.social sleep is always fuzzy. Depending on the implementation it can be very strange. Especially with low numbers, and developers trying to be smart to make the sleep more precise.

@jrf_nl@phpc.social I think that's a bit so strong. It's of course your opinion, but I do see it different. When used correct, AI generated code can be useful and correct. But it still requires human review and corrections. I'm not in the position to forbid everyone to use LLMs. The problem is the amount and low quality prs that were not checked and validated.

@elizayer@mastodon.social I wrote an article about this a few days ago: https://dev.to/jaapio/ai-isnt-changing-developers-its-reminding-us-who-we-are-491o If they only value software developers deliver is code. We could be replaced by code generators.

@jrf_nl@phpc.social I don’t fully agree that all LLM-generated code necessarily violates licenses, or that it is inherently low quality. In my view, contributors remain responsible for what they submit. As maintainers we try to review PRs for correctness, design, and long-term maintainability, but it’s not really feasible to verify the provenance of every line of code. For me, the main challenge is low-quality or insufficiently reviewed PRs that consume maintainer time, regardless of how they were created.
