@drahardja@sfba.social I wanted to ask how they thought attempting anything like this could possibly be a good idea even if it had been implemented perfectly. But of course they didn’t think that. They weren’t trying to make their product better. They were trying to differentiate it.

@jamesthomson @Cdespinosa I not only got my old employee number back (orders of magnitude higher than CDE’s but still comparatively low) but also my directory services ID, which is so low that I keep getting told it must be a typo or a system account.

@Remittancegirl Also, they are wrong about it being useless. We are hearing from Hungary that Orbán conceded peacefully in part because the people had demonstrated they would not tolerate shenanigans. The shit-for-brains in the White House needs to see that too, and not just in 2028.

@justkwin @jamesthomson @Cdespinosa When it comes to you, though, “alphabetical” isn’t as predictable as it is for others. Like did they sort you under Q or E? Because back then there were systems which did not know your government name. I bet there still are.

@JeffGrigg @Thain @tante @drahardja My favorite is when I tell a model to resolve a pathname starting with ‘~’, expecting it will be passed to the system for transformation into the path to the home directory of the current user, and the model sometimes replaces that itself with the path to the home directory of an account name of which I’ve never heard and isn’t on my system.

@rhys@mastodon.rhys.wtf There doesn’t have to be a conspiracy. Donny can simply be a fanboy. And from all appearances he is.

@Sonikku @rmondello Aparently not a lot of oil bound for the US passes through the strait. Donny has probably been told Iran is making money letting a few ships through, and this is his response. Because he apparently still does not understand oil is sold on a worldwide market. And admitting this war was a stupid idea is literally impossible for him.

@Nonilex@masto.ai @Cdespinosa@mastodon.social Come on. It’s taking a long time. That’s evidence! If it had taken a short time, that too would be evidence. If it had taken a medium amount of time? Evidence! I don’t think you understand how evidence works.

@scooter @dedicto It’s the answer if the people who are voted into power have the gonads for it. There are any number of things which can be done in the US to curb overt fascists while they are out of power. It just needs to be made clear to Democrats that their jobs depend on actually doing those things.

@jenniferplusplus OpenSSL is important to the world. Software for which a CTO might be held responsible is important to that CTO. There should be more overlap, but there isn’t.

"Why is it we only take people from shithole countries, right? Why can’t we have some people from Norway, Sweden – just a few – let us have a few. From Denmark – do you mind sending us a few people? Send us some nice people, do you mind? But we always take people from Somalia. Places that are a disaster, right? Filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.”
