I don't understand how we managed to collectively concede the claim that AI is good at generating code. I've seen the code they generate. I've worked on the code they generate. It's horrifying.

I just, i dunno. They said this would necessarily happen if anyone built the chatbot. They said it couldn't be prevented. They said they would build the chatbot if they got enough money. They got the money, built the chatbot, the thing happened, and there seems to be no indication that they even tried to prevent it.
This reads to me like a premeditated conspiracy to do computer crimes on a massive scale? Like, I don't know how you see it any other way.

nerd question: can you think of an example of Star Wars having faster-than-light sensors of some kind? There is plainly FTL travel and communications. But, can they _see_ faster than light, for want of a better term?
Watching people try to "debug" coding agent behavior is so unbelievably painful. It's just fucking magic incantations

Did you ask it to explain itself?
Did you read it's thought process to see where it's getting overwhelmed?
No because none of that is real. It does not do any of those things. It confabulates statistically probable text, and it does that over and over until a control loop stops asking for more. That is the whole entire thing.

Lucky you the entire global capital system is currently devoted to cramming these things into every seam and crevice in all of human society, so you got to use the text generator for like 0.1% of what it actually costs.
Sucks for the rest of the world, but w/e.
Regardless, you don't sound like you are equipped to judge the quality of its design and construction

It's been obvious to me for years that AI chatbots were an assault on expertise. (also labor, sense making, knowledge, art, artists, and so on. But, also expertise)
But I didn't forsee it being so effective on software developers. Our bosses, sure. And our coworkers who see themselves as temporarily unfunded startup founders, obviously. But not wide swathes of free software maintainers. And not the kind of devs who just write code for a living because they learned to do it and it pays well, but then they go home and live their lives. If I even thought about it, I'm sure I believed that we, as a group, placed too much value on correctness.

I came across this notion after googling other women power lifters, you know, for inspiration
After doing that, I decided that there likely is no level of jacked i could be that's too much, at least as far as my quads and glutes go. So obviously i was looking up more targeted hypertrophy routines, which led to an off hand remark about doing a deload week. A bit of ddg later, and I have a bit of a checklist: not making strength gains anymore, low appetite, not feeling fully recovered by the next session, and sleeping poorly. I'm like, shit, that's 4 for 4
So there we go. Saved by the mere sight of jacked women, sort of

In February last year, I put together a home lab server because I thought it was likely that new laptops would become unavailable in the US at some point. So, I find it deeply satisfying to see AI fans moan about how they can't possibly run local models while I'm sitting on a half terrabyte of RAM that's mostly just seeding torrents and streaming my movie collection to my TVs. Or literally anything but hosting a self-delusion factory
Tfw you put on a movie to fold laundry, and then at the end of it you've folded 1 shirt
On the plus side, now I've seen everything everywhere all at once

On the other hand, maybe I'm just over extended, and I need to do some more intentional recovery. So, I think I'm going to do a deload period, which is a thing I just read about. If you're like me from yesterday, that's not a term you're familiar with. But, it's basically an active rest. You keep lifting, but at a level that's low enough not to cause any additional strain, and just let your body consolidate growth and restock energy reserves. Hopefully after week of that I'll be back on the gainz train 🤞

So, anthropic is claiming that their new, secret, unreleased model is hyper competent at finding computer security vulnerabilities and they're *too scared* to release it into the wild.
Except all the AI companies have been making the same hypercompetence claims about literally every avenue of knowledge work for 3+ years, and it's literally never true. So please keep in mind the highly likely possibility that this is mostly or entirely bullshit marketing meant to distract you from the absolute garbage fire that is the code base of the poster child application for "agentically" developed software

For the moment, i got my surface pro out, and it's as okay as it ever was.
XP Pen has an actual tablet and I'm considering that. I just wish it had a dial. And that it was like 1 inch bigger. But being it's own dedicated appliance has a ton of appeal
