@Remittancegirl
It's easier to think it's kompromat than it could be someone like me. But I look at my brother and go, yep, he was the exact sort of "Christian" who could follow that path.
Trump epitomises Evangelicals for me, the pastor who is king in his own household, who expects everyone to obey, especially the women.
Putin's just another like minded gangster and possible role model.
@moof
I second cases. If a suitable one is available. I too regret not having one for the Fairphone that I replaced the iPhone with, but the case I had for that phone saved its life several times.
Screen protectors confuse me. If I'm doing something that's going to mess with gorilla glass, I really don't understand how the screen protector will help if it's not part of a rated case.
@Tattooed_Mummy
It would be interesting to see the patterns in people other than West Eurasian as well. For some groups one expects lighter skin may be counterproductive, for example. Also smaller population breakdown to see if there are other group/regional variations.
The idea that H. sap has stopped evolving always seemed really weird to me, probably too much HG Wells in my yoof.
@2legged
I tend to look at it as more teenagers acting out, having been left in charge (at least in their own mind) after WWII.
It's our own fault that no one has done anything to disabuse them of that notion.
@slothrop
I've been frightened of trying to draw for more than 40 years, and I really appreciate this. Especially that I can see what it is and understand what it communicates.
@mcnado
The sort of "Christians" I grew up with would have been happy to support him anyway. Not all of them would have necessarily been upset with cosplay Jesus.
Sure, not all "Christians", but there are a hell of a lot who prefer their fire and brimstone OT God, to the leftist boy that came later.
@aparrish
When I was a kid, I had a summer job where we had to ring the police before we opened the secure goods area because that's where we stored the cocaine.
But that's nostalgia for you.
@mayintoronto possibly Silver is superior to Saviolo, but that’s more 16th century than 21st, if a bit closer to my usual physical social activities.
And whilst may very well be of that faith, I’m not entirely certain it’s a just war.
@Remittancegirl
I genuinely don't believe a two party system is more fixable than a one party one. But that is a different issue.
More directly blaming kompromat isn't useful. Acknowledging that there are (at least) some Evangelicals who think Trump is doing God's work, and is the end run of the 5 decades of work probably is. Well, if one desires to address it.
Recognising how many are still willing to support that work is probably essential.
And whilst I think the Democrats are a lost cause, if progressives can get inside their decision loop they may be a workable option. That'll still take the sort of time it took the Evangelicals to get inside the GOP's loop.

That was true before AI. The irritation of being asked to comment on the consultant's report that was verbatim the draft I'd asked them for input on was palpable, and embarrassing for the grammatical and spelling errors that I'd not noticed when I wrote it.
It was ever thus. The company only believes you when they pay someone else to tell them, and don't need to understand it, or even read what you wrote.
@QasimRashid@mastodon.social
I have to admit I was utterly delighted to discover that the face that launched a thousand ships was Black.
How can you possibly not have a mix of peoples in a Mediterranean story from antiquity?
@Strandjunker@mstdn.social
I've been feeling it for a while, but every time we've not all actually died in a fire, I keep thinking I must have been mistaken.
@courtcan
I know every generation complains about the decline in education, but I'm beginning to think that they are all right to do so. Even secular nations haven't been keeping up with education budgets.
As you said, to lead us by the nose.
@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange
I only read it as naming the whale in two languages, as some sort of cultural artefact about precision. Or maybe precession, if the whales are swimming really fast.
@mayintoronto
I didn't know what Kewpie was, and had to look it up.
"...unique flavour ... egg yolks in place of whole eggs"
Well, yes, that's the correct way. Whole eggs are if you're being cheap, and possibly using something else to help the emulsification.
I believe I've seen miracle whip.
@aparrish
I kind of look at it the other way. If the resources used for GenAI were driven by something other than ponzi schemes and scams, then there may have been different outcomes.
Those outcomes were never going to be achieved by just throwing more tin at the problem, in accordance with tin profiteers.
@MostlyHarmless@thecanadian.social
Depends. I'm not too worried yet, because it's only 2020.6 so it's a bit over half a year.
To be fair the 90s weren't great in patches, but not like this.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
There is always that delightful possibility that if we don't buy from you (nation state), you'll take our cloud away and our governments will die. It's now a race between whether we'll wake up and ensure our own safety, and whether the US will actually push that button.
But at least some places are starting.
@mcc@mastodon.social
Sibling in suffering. I bought a bunch recently because support local bookshop, and I figure I should get back to books I own rather than licence.
It is hard. I've read more eBook words in the meanwhile though I've started more paper ones
@whitequark
I hear you. My UK settlement/citizenship path was a little easier due to ancestry. Spouses visa was dire, and we moved before having to deal with settlement, migration authorities really are not nice.
Rights, though. Rights are just how we politely express communal violence.
I'd like to think we're more than our rights.
@evacide
I think you need to retain a child-like sense of wonder to do that, the little bit of joy of something new.
That's a good thing, otherwise it's staring into the abyss for altogether too many of those years.
@0xabad1dea
Understanding that there are other frames of reference is critical. It's not about malice or stupidity, but different starting points and ways of thinking.
Sure when those ways of thinking are personally harmful it can be really difficult to find the detachment necessary to look at them, but without it you can't understand what's happening and learn how to see what's coming.
You also deny agency, which is never actually helpful.
@whitequark
I gave up on rights. I figure I have no rights that cannot be arbitrarily taken away, and in this timeline that seems ever more likely.
Still, I would not choose to go home.
@shansterable
Sounds right. Also a QR code doesn't trigger that impulse buy because you've just been reminded of that one time you had a perfect whatever that's on the list.
@johnzajac It’s been step by step since Reagan/Thatcher at least.
Sure voting is necessary, but it’s not sufficient, by a long ways.
But I get into trouble when I say that.
