Yesterday I was in a beergarden for a couple of hours in the early evening. Two food trucks were parked side by side.
The Greek food truck had a printed menu displayed on the side of the truck.
The Thai street food truck had a big banner with a QR code on it.
I sat facing the trucks, and I only saw people order from the Greek food truck.
I believe this is because THE GREEK MENU AND PRICES WERE RIGHT THERE. You won't convince me otherwise.

View from the middle of Beckler River taken on my recent camping trip in the northwest Cascade Mountains near Stevens Pass.
The campground sits off to the left, and the river used to run alongside it. Last winter's catastrophic rainfall and flooding destroyed 2 of the riverside sites and moved the entire river over to the right.

Folks. I have been to Horn Island. The only way to and from is by private boat.

The "big tent" political analogy has always gotten under my skin.
I don't want to share an enclosed space with bigots and fascists (whether current or former).
I prefer the "river of sewage" analogy. We are all floating down the same shitstream.
We can help each other stay afloat, get to shore, and vanquish the shit source, but we aren't trapped together inside a sunless defined space.

My friend's parents are in this category. I had the privilege of going to a No Kings protest with them - their first protest ever at age 70+. I could see the emotion in their faces.
Further context: The dad had never protested because when he returned to the US after serving in Vietnam, protesters had spit on him. For him to dip his toes in the protesting waters after that humiliating experience speaks volumes about the current state of the US.

The fact that younger generations don't feel comfortable in public to let loose and dance is extremely depressing for me to learn.
But, I understand the fear of being captured on video for the rest of time during moments of vulnerability .
In the pre-cell phone era of the 80s and 90s, dancing was my weekend therapy. Dancing to DJs and live music with friends and strangers.

Someone posted about the "Mastodon HOA" the other day, and darned if there weren't at least 5 comments asking what the hell an HOA is.
We are all from different countries and regions here. Acronyms and initialisms simply do not optimize communication.
I have been scolded for asking what a particular initialism meant (after searching high and low online). I was told I didn't search *correctly* and that is why I failed.

I liked to swim, play tennis, roller skate, and ride my bike. Hated team sports.
My school had no pool or tennis court. Only play fields and a gym.
I am jealous when I hear about today's kids getting PE credit for logging the physical activity of their choice outside of school.
Oh, and my PE teacher actually whipped me on the leg with his whistle lanyard because I refused to do extra leg lifts. Fuck that sadistic piece of shit.

I've hiked that Baker River trail a couple of times. I've done part of lake shore trail as well.
How were the mosquitos and flies this time of year? In the past, I have found them almost unbearable at times.

I camp at Baker Lake every year.
There's no place like it.
And every year I say to myself, if I were a designer, I'd assemble the palette of colors I see there - the blue-green water, the vibrant bright green moss, the dark evergreens, and the reddish brown bark and soil - and call it the Baker Lake Palette.
All my favorite colors in that landscape.
In August, the pristine water is just warm enough for a swim with a view of snow-capped Mt. Baker.

I started using Tuta about a year and a half ago.
I use the free version and it has worked out. I will probably upgrade to the paid tier in a few months.
I had a hard time choosing from all the decent non-Google choices. In the end, I just made a choice and went with it. I decided leaving Google is more important than whether I pick the "best" email service. And the sooner the better.

Last fall, our neighbors gave me some calendula seeds from their yard, which have bloomed in my yard this year. 🤩 Unfortunately, the neighbors moved back to California last month. They couldn't bear the Pacific Northwest drizzle, but the flowers will always remind me of them.

True story. I was having some flooring installed in my ground floor bedroom, just off a patio.
While the installer was working on the patio, I saw another man walk through our gate and into the bedroom.
I ran out to ask what the hell he thought he was doing in my bedroom. He said he was just curious about the work.
I told him he was out of line and to get out. He appeared surprised at my reaction. He acted irritated.
I never assume "good intent" when someone trespasses me.

Before my first period, I wish I would have known that throughout my adult life, in which I never wavered in my choice to not bear children, that my uterus would be a source of debilitating pain, and that a patriarchal medical system would prolong my suffering by denying my hysterectomy until I was perimenopausal due to "risk of regret," and that I should have lawyered-up and been a raging self-advocate from the get-go.

As a result of the Rethuglican "One Big Beautiful Bill" signed into law last year (that the Dems caved on), millions of USians are receiving notice that as of January 1, they no longer qualify for Medicaid health insurance due to work requirements.
If you lose your job, and your health insurance with it, too bad.
If you can't find a job, too bad.
The downstream effects of this will be catastrophic for the uninsured. Hospitals and clinics will close.
