This was for sale with it's antennas and everything at the hamfest. But the dude wanted 540eur for this (400 - 470MHz), the 100 - 170MHz model and antennas in their carrying case for both.
Which was a bit too much for the toy. Especially when I only wanted the UHF one.

@ln @sundogplanets And then there is how the datacenters are talked about in terms of megawatts as the main measure. So now people talk how the current planed datacenter buildout in Finland is about two Olkiluoto NPP's worth of pwoer consumption. There are only now an inkling of a plan to build one more NPP to feed those. But no talk about the grid and who's gona pay for the grid buildout. And how everyone is gona pay with their electricity price going up 2x to 5x.

@ryanc@infosec.exchange @s0@cathode.church @f4grx@chaos.social I have looked inside a few modern modules of that style and they are hilariously boring. One or two chips and that's it. Nothing like the old GBIC's that were crammed full of chips you could find datasheets for. Hell, often the lasers were HP/Agilent made as well with datasheets.

Bought one of these out of curiosity.
And it's not very good. FM broadcast band cannot differentiate weaker stations from each other and only a few strong stations are listenable.
But the audio quality for those is actually pretty cool.
Did not hear anything on shortwave or medium wave in the day time.
So I guess I need to figure out how to hook up a proper antenna to it.
Outside of just wrapping a wire around that big inductor.

There is now one on it's way to me.
Along with the CF card ram expansion module with less exciting layout.

@datenwolf @mayintoronto @ln @sundogplanets This has been a discussion I have had a few times elsewhere as well. What is next for all the ML hardware being currently manufactured? Can even the fiber optical stuff be reused, it is proprietary and sometimes watercooled. Not at all homelab compatible. And full racks will not be usable to smaller players thanks to them being watercooled and the now current talk about the feed being 800V DC, not even normal mains or three phase.

@qualia@floofy.tech For me this is in particular ironic, because the first distro I installed myself was openSuSE, when I was like 14yo. They truly are pulling the ladder up with them. If there had been shit like this everywhere I would have likely just continued on with windows only and maybe experimented with opensolaris or freebsd instead of various linux distros.

@gsuberland @jonty @emf There is a Loran made radar on sale right now. But it is in pieces and quite huge. Old fixed install one for observing marine traffic. That thing has like 70-95% of the parts. The thing with most surplus like that is that somebody is gona buy it as a fancy camper and all the RF looking stuff will go to metal recycling.

Speedtest does show more ping on uplink, but it should not make things that much worse.

As these STM32G431CBU6 boards seem to be decently common on aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009686459434.html Not that the ali board is more than half to 2/3 the price of the official NUCLEO-G431KB board.
