@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Seen elsewhere on Mastodon (but now can't find) ...
1970s: Manual supplied with car tells you how to change all fluids, check timing, gap sparkplugs.
2020s: Manual supplied with car implores you not to drink the battery acid.

@chantaryu2 @cwebber Oh yeah. Meta and others are definitely involved. But it might not be cash changing hands, just the possibility of universal surveillance.

@alexandrageese@bonn.social I mean, this is completely in line with other moves in this space from EU members (chat control, age verification, tying age verification to Android / iOS device attestation).
Watching this from a distance - Australia - and shaking my head at the US's lurch into fascism, and now the EU's enthusiasm for techno-authoritarianism.

GitHub PR UX really is trash. Several times I've scrolled right by this file that needs review, because "Large diffs are not rendered by default." GitHub, you have one job when it comes to PR review, and that's surfacing diffs. ESPECIALLY the large ones.

Annoying that the Signal client for Android doesn't seem to understand non Web URLs.

@snaprails@cupoftea.social @TheEddieShow@beige.party @cmconseils@mastodon.social I'm surprised it was economically viable to get your Nan's telly to the moon for him to step on! 1969 payload costs were bonkers.

@ajft@aus.social Back when I was a teenage motorcyclist, when we found people parking like this (e.g. cars in motorcycle parks) we'd let all their tyres down.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I once, 25 years ago, accidentally submitted my wife's CV in place of my own, when applying for a role as a programmer.
Astoundingly I got an interview! The hiring manager started off by asking why I thought I was qualified for the role, as my background was in call centre management.
🤣
Needless to say I didn't get the role. Something about attention to detail.

I suspect that's the real reason behind the change. They're firing their small customers.

@robpike@hachyderm.io Not sure how the lettering has been put on my Unicomp keycaps, but I've used them for *years* with no visible wear. Or indeed any physical change in the keyboard itself. Those things are built like tanks, and still available new.
Their new Mini M model in particular looks nice. And I believe you can get Mac style keycaps for them. My own Unicomp sports a custom keycap set they printed for me with actual hyper, super, and meta labels.

@Daojoan@mastodon.social Not just a bank, but a savings bank. Backed 100%* by a well-diversified range of commodities.
- Appreciate that's not always entirely possible, watching e.g. the price of gold plummeting just recently.

@benteh@mastodon.social I once got (more or less) fired from a tech company, and then returned years later for a very successful stint there as a senior manager.
Getting fired doesn't mean you're useless 😁 Sometimes it just means you weren't what your employer thought they needed at the time. And sometimes they were wrong 😉

On a serious note - thanks, this is really interesting. We deploy as systemd units at $DAYJOB already; looks like we could harden things a bit.

@servelan As someone who's skeptical of *complete* fossil fuel replacement goals due to issues with cost, availability, and pollution from storage, I was wondering how they plan to do it.
Turns out, from the article ...
"France only generates a fraction of its electricity from hydrocarbons, thanks to its extensive nuclear power generation."
I mean, don't get me wrong. If I was the king of everything and could replace all of our (Australia's) fossil fuel power generation with renewables and nuclear, I would. It'd not be perfect, but would be better than what we have now.
I guess I'll keep waiting for 100% renewables *without* nuclear to become viable, outside of lucky cases (e.g. where there's plenty of pre-existing hydro).

@EUCommission Speaking as an Australian, I'm delighted! As a "middle power" the more we move away from alignment with the US, and towards alignment with the EU, the better.

@foone@digipres.club The hardest part is writing composable GUIs. I just don't believe you can have the expressive power of something as simple as pipes.
I think Microsoft, oddly, came the closest to this in GUIs with OLE.
