RE: https://mastodon.social/@devolute/116240677422104893 Never forgot what #SYPN took away from us. They were this close to implementing iconic branding but decided to drop the ball by resorting to huge - barely readable - letters. Bit of a mess. I wonder which sadist pushed for the change? #Sheffield

Digging the look of the new buses for #Sheffield / #SouthYorkshire - yes “People’s Network” is a bit 'Continuity Corbyn' & yes it's 🇳🇱 Dutch AF (we've done this before, *cough* Tramlines branding) - nothing wrong with that.
Who knows, it might hint at better cyclist vibes? #YorkshireYorkshireYorkshire 🚌 #SYMCA

A delightfully presented dive into the state of those common patterns for which we've developed JS libraries and can now be entirely replaced by modern #CSS : https://blog.gitbutler.com/the-great-css-expansion

I love @alifeee@mastodon.social 's #Sheffield events bot (@events) - it's genuinely how I find stuff to do with the kids in town.

Leveraging #ActivityBot and some selector-heavy scraping. #FrontEndSheff

@liw It's fantastic that you have both the insight/wisdom of lived experience _and_ are in a secure enough position not to worry. But the job market doesn't necessarily share your attitude and so those who have neither of these things are entirely justified in their concern.

This article from @mdn@mastodon.social is fascinating. Especially:

> Really, MDN isn't a particularly complex site […] The vast majority of content on an MDN documentation page is HTML and CSS: we don't need a complex app powering the majority of the site. We essentially have islands of interactivity, which could easily all be implemented as web components.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/blog/mdn-front-end-deep-dive/

Shocked as you are! The #LostDecade of Front End strikes again.

Under the hood of MDN's new frontend | MDN Blog
MDN Web Docs

Under the hood of MDN's new frontend | MDN Blog

You may have spotted that MDN has a new frontend. There's plenty happening under the surface, so let's unpack the technologies we chose, the architectural decisions we made, and why we did a rebuild at all.

This #WordPress takedown is savage: https://marcindudek.dev/blog/wordpress-manifesto/
Completely reasonable points, unfortunately. Except I will say on the 'Community' point, that is a little unfair - when I was part of this community many parts of it were very welcoming.

@jpm@aus.social Floating buttons like this in web design history have always been "uh, let's bodge this into place". Evidence of a lack of consideration and an unwillingness to make functionality 'core' long term. See: 'Like' buttons pinned to the side of the viewport. Cookie policy interactions floating over primary content.

CKEditor (and by extension, #CraftCMS) just got a huge 'glow-up' when it comes to tables: they can turn into quite fiddly things, but this change should fix most of the struggles I (well, my content editors) had with them in this CMS.

I know. Boring old tables! - but here's the thing: In this age of #GEO presenting tabular data concisely can be a huge #SEO advantage and there are many cases where it's the right choice in terms of reader comprehension too.
