The myth that AI is this magical technology that 'just works' is actively harming tens of thousands of marginalized people. Propagating this idea is harmful. Promoting AI in general is harmful.

Already stopped paying for their products after the introduction of that chatbot. Seems like it was a good idea; seeing AI-chatbots as useful appears to be writing on the wall for more slop down the line.

Pretty scary how ordinary people are doing the billionaires' jobs for them by instinctively censoring any voices critical of the system. I think un-learning this reflex is one of the most important things we can do right now.

At the moment your wishlist is impossible. There's very few modern browser engines out there. There's Blink (Google), WebKit (Apple), and Gecko (Mozilla). The first two are GAFAM, and Mozilla is currently shitting the bed by going full AI.
However: in the future, Servo might be exactly what you're looking for. It's an entirely new browser engine developed by the Linux Foundation Europe.

My university, the University of Antwerp, is giving an honorary degree to Francesca Albanese, together with two other Belgian universities.
I'm feeling very ambivalent about it.
On the one hand it's obviously a positive gesture, an acknowledgement of the work she's done for justice in Palestine.
But my university has not cut ties with Israeli institutions. They have not made a statement on the ongoing genocide and its impact on education for Palestinians. Hell, they haven't even dared to use the word 'genocide' at all. Even though we – critical students and staff – have urged them to do all of these things for years at this point.
My worry is that this honorary degree is a very convenient get-out-of-jail-free card against criticism, because look at the statement they made! It's a way to polish their image without actually making meaningful changes to their own operations.
It's not a matter of whether Albanese deserves an honorary degree. The question is whether my university deserves to hand it out.

It's less about the nitty-gritty of organising, more about making a high-level, philosophical point about the importance of care and connection in radical movements. I have a subquestion, perhaps the people in this thread will be able to help:
Surely there are ways to secure documents against being read by an 'AI' chatbot, right? I'm thinking invisible text that gives instructions, but less naive.
I found some examples in this paper [https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.11113] but 1) the paper is written from the point of view of trying to overcome these attacks (yikes), and 2) all examples given involve rewriting the text itself.
I wonder if there's an easier way to either break the technology completely, or at least detect the 'AI' usage somehow.

One word: reliability.
Last year I took the train from the Netherlands to the south of Spain for work. A trip that should take about 24 hours. My very first train was delayed by an hour and I ended up scrambling to rebook all my trains, booking a last-minute hotel in Paris, and finally taking 48 hours to get to my destination.
A few weeks ago I took the train from Belgium to the south of Spain for work. A trip that should take about 17 hours. My train from Lyon was cancelled without warning and I ended up scrambling to rebook my trains, getting a six-hour BlaBlaCar ride, booking a last-minute hostel in Perpignan, and finally taking 34 hours to get to my destination.
Honestly, I feel like an idiot for even taking the train, but I refuse to fly over these short distances because it's just ridiculous to do so.
