Killing thousands of people is fine but we draw the line at Jesus statue...
What a disgrace
@ShaulaEvans "Acknowledge" Because
- there is no easy equivalent in French
- that's the first rare and complicated word I learn in English (I was like.... 10?)
- I learned it from the CPC6128 manual (the bible)
@nicolasvivant@colter.social 4.
@alexanderdyas @ShaulaEvans I heard "acquitter" in the surveillance space (like people monitoring alerts in power plants or power network) and I use it since. Nobody in the computer field asked me for the definition so either
- they didn't know and didn't care to ask
- or they understood it fine ;)
and yeah, "aknowledger" is used too... (I hate the mouthful it is though ;) )
@ShaulaEvans There may be different translation
Now that I think about it more deeply (how to translate acknowledge in France):
- "accusé de réception" would be the expression we would use for the general public to understand
- "acquittement" could be a great word to say something very similar, used for electronic signals or alerting systems
