The first paragraph isn't well-written but what a thing to behold.
The previous article (linked at the bottom of the page) also has a paragraph the ends craply too.
Anyway, SCIENCE!

'Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term "dark matter" which is impressive, but he also coined the term "spherical bastard" to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.'

It's too hot.
Yesterday, in one of the hottest days of this year here in NW England, my oldest daughter went on a 12km route march with the RAF cadets.
Today, another march, 15km.

@stumblewyk @MatWright Meaning of Life is redeemed for me by one scene, the rest I found hit-and-miss when I showed it to my oldest daughter a few years ago.
I'd forgotten the classroom scene and honestly I'm sure I could have cut the awkward silence in the room here with the proverbial knife.

@stumblewyk @MatWright If in any doubt you could just say the humour hasn't travelled very well in time? Wish *I* could go back and do that.

Introduce yourself with 10 bands you’ve seen live:
(9)
Girls Aloud
Deacon Blue
The Cheeky Girls
Sugababes
Fish (ex Marillion)
Bob Geldof's turn of the century band
Lisa Stansfield
50 Cent
The Prodigy
No tolerance for loud live music so gave up and have seen no-one in last 20 years.¹ Hearing is still better than it should be for my age though, so… :/

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st Sand casting?
The first things I thought of, dependent on the basic material grade:
Screwdriver/chisel handle, if you can cast around the blade of one with a split wood/plastic handle, and if you can turn and maybe knurl. This depends on the impact resistance, especially if you've the possibility of heat treating after casting.
Custom bike tool plates. Probably too fiddly.
Pump mount.
Last time I cycled I never got round to buying a chainstay stand. Not sure about cast though.
My daughter1 (vegan) spent the day in Wigan and didn’t have a pie and didn't visit Wigan Pier.

Been chatting at work about establishing an AI policy that stops our intellectual property from leaking from non-company LLMs. We have a couple of new starters, one wants to test his understanding of what he's learning by using an AI.
Whilst we had it sandboxed it seemed possible. But I cautioned him that in practice it's unlikely to offer much protection - it's an illusion of privacy isn't it.
Anyway, found out today that the group is setting up a group-only LLM.

@ana@starlite.rodeo @quixoticgeek@social.v.st Old enough to remember when developers wrote code that they baked into ROMs that didn't need to be updated. Technologically primitive compared with today's offerings sure, but it just worked and was simple enough that bugs were found more quickly and usually had less of an impact.
Happy days.
But here I am looking at all this wondrous stuff on a slab of glass, metals and plastics and thinking, naah I'd rather not go back.
