Absolutely knackered after a successful weekend of #BHPC racing at #Betteshanger. There are a couple more bumps in the track surface than I remember from riding part-faired two years ago. Also, someone appears to have tightened up the bends.
Came a resounding second in everything, and managed to keep things rubber-side down, in spite of omnidirectional gusting crosswind. Failed to reach 40mph in the flying sprint, due to a combination of not carrying quite enough speed into the preceding corner and encountering a headwind down the straight. 37.46 will have to do.

@Maker_of_Things@cupoftea.social @BrianSmith950@mas.to @hollowman@fosstodon.org Check the sockets can't be switched to permanent live by moving a fuse. That's a thing on some cars. (Though sadly not ours, which considers fuse replacement to be a workshop item. I stuck an Anderson connector on the battery, so I could use it with an inverter for eBike charging or powering the BHPC timing system, but discovered that the 'ignition' times out after 20 minutes without touching the driving controls so it's much less useful than expected.)

@Lana@beige.party The cyclists' lawns are probably skewing the results...
Note for non-cyclists: Since no right-minded cyclist would waste decent cycling weather doing Gardening, the stereotypical "cyclists lawn" is one that only gets cut when it inhibits bicycle access to the shed.

@billgoats@bitbang.social It being a word I've learned by reading, I specifically checked this with other en_GB speakers: It's 'router' for pushing packets, but 'router' for woodworking.

All you have to do is be dumb enough to put it in sensitive infrastructure and war machines. Not even that, you just have to let the wrong people use it for bad advice.

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st It's one of those law vs reality things. In the UK there is no 'registered disabled' other than for blind people. But you're only disabled under the Equality Act if your impairment is likely to last at least 12 months, so your ankle injury wouldn't qualify.

@ravenbait@mastodon.scot @Mab_813@fedi.at @junesim63@mstdn.social Depends how you average it, too. I heat to 21°C for comfort, but infrequently used rooms run a lot colder, and everything cools down overnight. My computer informs me that our indoor temperature has averaged 18.2°C since the start of the month (that's hourly samples with equal weighting of all the rooms, which is flawed, but a useful indication).
I suspect the Swedes do a better job of maintaining a steady temperature rather than getting home in the evening and throwing huge amounts of energy at a cold house.

@oivaeskola@toot.community IANA topologist, but I did actually do this to someone who'd got in a muddle with armfuls of bags and locks and managed to fail to lock her bike to the stand. I figured that being patronised by a random stranger was better than having your bike stolen.

Still time to register for the #BHPC racing at #Betteshanger Park (near Deal in Kent) this weekend.
Looks like it might stay dry, so the main challenge will be wind...

@foolishowl@social.coop The other thing TV shows from that era show is callers staying on the line long enough for someone who doesn't happen to have the phone already in their hand to answer. There's a scene in Edge of Darkness where the phone rings, and the character casually finishes shaving, cleans up, pours a drink and then picks up the ringing phone. That seems ridiculous today, where callers typically give up after maybe 10 seconds, as if people might not be in another room with schmoo on their hands.
Much the same could be said for doorbells, if people bother to use them at all.

@th@social.v.st @futurebird@sauropods.win Trick is to have your cycle security spidey sense calibrated for London (or presumably NYC) and then move to somewhere less bike-thief-infested. Your half-arsed locking will be at least twice as good as all the other bikes in the rack, and the best deterrent is an easier to steal bike.
Riding something weird / uncool can help to some extent, but it's not going to so much if theives are willing to strip it for parts.
Sometimes the only cycle security I trust is using my Brompton and keeping it with me.
