My wife is on a stained glass kick recently and this #Godzilla is amazing.

I love the fire everywhere, atomic breath, and the textured glass for its body.

My wife creates a lot of #stainedglass projects that are a little outside the norm. 👻

Here is one she made before #Halloween to pay homage to Stanley Kubrick's classic #film, The Shining.

I couldn't find a native #MacOS #SQLite browser that I really liked using, so... I made my own. 😅

Very heavily inspired by Postico, the (IMO) best #PostgreSQL client for #Mac: https://eggerapps.at/postico2/. SQLiteo is pure #Swift, as fast as possible, and intuitive to use.

SQLiteo is still alpha quality and has some rough edges, but I've been using it every day and it's been great. #MIT licensed and happy to take PRs to improve it.

New laptop, so it's time to update my list of apps I install on a clean #MacOS install: https://gist.github.com/adamghill/d107a729923dff1b6c0aa17c72d1c5ff.

- Swapped Term2 for Ghostty
- Add Tiny Player, SQLiteo
- Unsure about DevUtils (there are a few other options here, but tbh I don't love any of them -- I've thought about building my own for probably 3 years -- how hard can it be?! 🙈)
- Also unsure about setting up `fish` again; `zsh` might be fine 🤷

Anything I'm missing? What do you install right away when you get a new laptop?

RE: @tante@tldr.nettime.org

Some of this resonates, but maybe code wizard is not the correct lens?

For ~50 years, programmer meant “writes code”. But, maybe it should have meant "solves problems".

In other words: companies don't pay programmers high salaries to write code, they pay them to solve business problems. Sometimes that means you don't write any code at all and fix a process problem. Other times, code is the solution.

The code is not the valuable artifact, though.

@josh@social.joshthomas.dev @webology@mastodon.social there are a few projects which mash Pydantic into the Django ORM -- I haven't used any in prod, though. I like Pydantic just fine, but personally all I want is is better DX for Django models and I don't see why Pydantic is required for that at all. I have a proof-of-concept which is "just" a base class (or decorator) which wraps around a normal Django model, but adds support for types hints. However, as is typical, I got distracted and haven't finished the last 10%.

I feel like there was a real loss of identity when an IC software engineer becomes a tech lead/EM.

Instead of heads down writing code, it’s more about reviewing PRs, spec-ing out next steps, thinking high level about the architecture, etc.

AI is looking like it will force that transition on huge swaths of software engineers at some point.

Maybe not 100% and maybe not tomorrow, but it seems pretty likely to change the profession pretty dramatically.

It’s gonna be a tricky inflection point.

I think we're going to see some companies fail or struggle really hard because they solved something quickly, but couldn't iterate beyond that initial success

For sure. This happened in the before-times, too, but I'm guessing this will happen even more going forward. It's going to be a wild next couple of years.

Not sure what I expected from HN, but some of the comments in https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47768750 🙈

I personally think there should be way more forks. That's part of the deal with OSS! Forks are a way to go in a drastically different direction and that's kinda neat to see.

"I'm also not sure why that is better than what's already out there” could be said about literally every single web framework at one point in time.

Maybe the point is to just put your spin on it?!

Maybe it’s a quirk with Antigravity (VS Code derivative) and Jedi? Or maybe it’s how I’m trying to use dataclass_transform? I’m still confused what is going on, but the pyright and ty extensions seem to show hovers how I would expect.

My understanding: the PR for adding dataclass_transform was merged into jedi in Sept 2025, however the last official release version is 0.19.2 from Nov 2024 per https://pypi.org/project/jedi/#history And 0.19.2 is the version bundled with the ms-python.python extension. Which is... a bummer.

Time to switch to emacs?
