@gabrielesvelto@mas.to @eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place probably about scottjenson s attempt at talking about how the fediverse is hostile/unwelcoming to some people? (wasn't prepared for just how bad it would go with the example he chose, ironically a case in point) unless I missed something else - but that one hasn't exactly been what's being relayed in these comments

@q3k there is also raising goats / other escape to nature jobs like it

@accidentlyAnton@mastodon.gamedev.place @Sophie@dice.camp hah - it really is you get to skip the taking minutes part going in like that

@slembcke decades old trick :) I reached the demo boundaries in all cardinal directions not managing to find another copper to complete storage L2 (the signals are all out of bounds or the cold area ones that appear to mark the current demo end?) auto stash is indeed great - the extra drone as well one more thing I stumbled over is scan having priority over ship wreck/cargo teleporter (rescanned things a lot when trying to turn in resources)

@slembcke also the only other placeholder that stood out to me was the blatant no image for the key/crystal scan I really don't think you have to worry about the crashed ship and other placeholders - put it it the intro blurb and this is excellent

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place big change feels like going from inexplicable smog to clear air

@Sophie@dice.camp I do not understand this hole thing here that's the only position where any nodes "connect", browser version edit: hold on - I guess the hole has a correct orientation as well / is really just an invisible dice? nvm this hah

@pandro@fedi.imowl.net@StopKillingGames@mastodon.social@stopkillinggames-official@www.youtube.com following the long tag you used works well too if you need it more fine grained

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place @benthroop@mastodon.gamedev.place and the big walk game is going to eat that cake already - wouldn't wanna be up against that with other features on top that only complicate it further

@abban@mastodon.ie excellent work :D love the new quests the amount of entity noise can be a bit overwhelming now with how loud and frequent they are I think the vertical stick camera pan could use a bit of a dead zone (so it doesn't pan up or down a little when I'm just rotating) and I seem to get an fps dip on explosions - only noticed because of the domino chain

@JohannaMakesGames hmm okay - that's not exactly firm tofu either in my experience all the tofu we have here is varying degrees of soft (or even extra soft) and will only start to take on flavours and able to be fried properly if cooked in saltwater first (all the pressing and whatnot just ruins the structure of it without getting rid of the weird tofu water flavour) would be amazing to work with firm tofu that has low water content to begin with for once

@JohannaMakesGames where did you get firm tofu

@johanpeitz@mastodon.gamedev.place right, no problem if it is can be stitched together from the single axis rotation sheet already

@johanpeitz@mastodon.gamedev.place it's the same thing but including overhead (or even from below) angles based on the triangles of an octahedral sphere (as like, infinite outward going volumes that determine which angle to show in that direction) very common optimisation method to replace a massive amount of 3D models with just billboards showing the prerender from the appropriate angle

@johanpeitz@mastodon.gamedev.place okay you got me now - straight onto my wishlist

@slembcke and more of a QOL thing: very early on I've found myself wishing for a quick travel home shortcut - or maybe fast travel bookmarks? the shipwreck in particular is something I don't want to manually select every time

@johanpeitz@mastodon.gamedev.place could this potentially do an octahedral impostor layout as well?

@gedankenstuecke I prioritised long-term understanding over short-term output and academia already punished students for that before LLMs, which is why I did not continue that path. (around my time here they simplified structures, increased workload and reduced oral exams that would test this - you either went overtime or cheated to keep up)

@slembcke the manual grab is fun - especially for moving nodes the upgrade just doesn't really achieve the kind of streamlining I would expect for the amount of resources you have to collect that way

@slembcke context switching is also painfully slow especially swapping between weapons and grabs or digging and locator things that the game seems to ask of me in conjunction a lot

@slembcke that's perfect then the game just pointed me into a cold biome I have almost everything available to me except for the autocannon upgrade (still missing 500 viridium ion for that - weapon overheating made it the slowest resource to gather) and I've already been at it for hours if this is a scripted event happening after a certain amount of progress, I'd shorten that for the demo and put the back to title screen "end" around that point - this is already more than enough

@YsengrinWolf why is this still so complicated and not a single click like following a tag

@slembcke if you have the capacity to make the controller glyphs static on web rather than dymanic that would suit most players giving it a try . just always the correct xbox glyph, no matter what the browser reports

@slembcke sooo I've played for a looong time now - and I honestly wasn't/am not sure if it's open ended or not been skipping messages so far cause I don't have the capacity for lots of reading (amazing work that I could progress like that no problem) if you do have some sort of end screen for the demo I highly recommend making that force the player back to main menu and display it there - from where they can load up the save to continue (so someone skipping things like me can't miss it)

@slembcke yup, and the scanner says Y instead of X - these two appear to be flipped throughout for me (all others are correct so far)

@alice@lgbtqia.space I get this very thing reading lactose "intolerance" as a vegan xD

@slembcke well - always show Y for signal and X for scan/interact/etc only use the browser gamepad report to know it's no longer keyboard controls - ignore the dynamic layout I don't see controller rebinding here - so these xbox buttons should always be the same, right?

@slembcke yes, this is the web version - xbox one controller through a firefox fork I would honestly lock them for the web version and say upfront that it only supports fixed xbox glyphs with others/settings available in download/full game cause it works excellent and web version is the main reason I could quickly give it a try

@accidentlyAnton@mastodon.gamedev.place second first one was sub 90 - only got to skip the plural, but I'm kinda certain a variety speedcuber would get sub 60 first try

@slembcke ooooooooohh I see - it actually mixes them up physically that is very unfortunate if it's inconsistent across different machines

@abban@mastodon.ie I think I do enjoy the noise amount as well - it adds very well to the chaos - but not when it comes with a cat yelling straight into your ear every 2-3 seconds xD

@slembcke if you have an end screen for the demo (thanks for playing type stuff), I don't think you have to cap the resources - just let the player know they've seen all the demo has to offer but can continue if they wish (especially if you can still test more crafting stuff that way without having to retreat the beginning) if the shippy avatar is an indication of placeholder quality, then you don't have to worry about that - just communicate that in the startup message as well
