@Sheril Is that North Dakota at under a dollar? Nice :-) The other subtle gain by charging at home is that I never need to go out of my way to fuel up or wait for a gas pump. It charges while I sleep, and I essentially never go longer than one charge in a day. (Although presumably I could; DC chargers are plenty around here.) Now we need to give renters the same awesome charging experience!

@tojiro Reviewing other people's code and debugging unfamiliar modules is where we grow the most though. My advice to new programmers is always "read other people's code! Do it regularly, with the goal to understand how it actually works. Step through it in the debugger!"

I e, "oil energy used" is measured in kW of heat from the oil extracted, even if it's used to make electricity at 36% efficiency. So renewables at 98% efficiency are worth almost 3x the oil in these charts -- the replacement is much further along than you might conclude from a pie chart!

To be fair, that proposal calls out all the things that ipv6 fails to address, and calls out that ipv6 transition isn't even happening, and there are simpler ways to solve all of these problems. The drawback in that particular proposal is the centralization, and the default routing rules seemingly disallowing local peer discovery.

@gallowaylass The US prices are much lower if you actually have insurance, and there's a law that you pay more tax if you don't have insurance, and there are subsidies for the insurance for poor people (this is "Obamacare") That being said, keeping a single payer system is obviously the best health policy! Most of the US wishes it was politically possible to get there.

@skylark13 @tojiro In the best of worlds, we get to pick which parts we do! A hobby woodcarver might use a knife where an industrial process would use CNC, and that's OK! Note that society doesn't pay me to "do the bits I enjoy" though. They pay me for robust, working software, as quickly as possible, and the models can help achieve that, when guided.

@lurker@awful.systems Many security companies are not the best at software engineering. (I don't know about the ones used here in particular.) I honestly do not believe this was orchestrated. I've seen similar security consultant mistakes for humans in the past.
