FreeBSD hacker. Has been known to touch pf and lived to regret it.
Strong opinions on bikes and the need to crush all cars into tiny cubes. More strong opinions about bullshit machines.

Rather foolishly volunteered to run EuroBSDCon 2026 in Brussels.
Ceterum autem censeo FTP esse delendam.

@mwl@io.mwl.io Would https://freebsdfoundation.org/our-work/grants/travel-grants/ help? Today is the last day for the CFP deadline, and I wouldn't expect you to get a reply to that today, so maybe submit anyway and deal with the details in the next few days?

@kamila@pleroma.anduin.net Those are the hard parts after all. I like staying in the kernel, where things are simple and there are *rules*.

@jmaris@eupolicy.social I remember making deliveries with one of those. At one point I delivered a a 750 kg industrial pump with one. They conveniently fit a standard pallet in the back, and you can just load and unload those with a forklift. As a bonus, no one who owns one of those cares one little bit about an extra scratch or dent, so you don't even have to be very careful with them.

@cstross Welcome ! It's becoming pretty clear that Musk is going to speedrun the demise of Twitter, and I'm really torn about that. On the one hand, I've grown fond of Twitter as a way to keep up with people, and keep up with news relevant to my interests. On the other hand, it's really, really funny to watch him set 44 billion dollars on fire.

@StompyRobot @0xabad1dea Except for the trivial little detail that IPv6 transition is absolutely happening. Half of the traffic Google sees is IPv6 at this point: https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html The criticism that there's no IPv6 adoption might have been valid a decade ago, but it's just not true today. (Actually, going by Google's numbers it would have been nearly 10% at that time too.)

@hanno @TimPhSchaefers I don't understand why governments (or indeed any large organisations) ever releases domain names again. It's not as if they cost actual money to keep, and the potential downsides of releasing one, even if *you* don't use it any more, are massive.

@bridget@beige.party Look, one of these is an activity that morally and spiritually degrades all involved. The other is getting paid to suck dick.
