@ncrav @cazabon i did exactly this with an old 1950s record player recently 🙂
But it almost worked... the arm did not come down straight onto the record. about 100 moving parts!! One spring left over... hmm. No good manuals / diagrams I could find.
I had one blurry picture that I could just see the edge of a spring I forgot to put back on. It worked!
Be brave. Take stuff apart and learn. Take pictures! Happy tinkerer for 50 years...

@GoingDownWithSundial@mastodon.social thank you! You are an inspiration! My teenage daughter is also a very fussy eater; the bit about taking control is so like her (and a bit like me!) I will ask her to help me more often in the kitchen 😊

This is perhaps the only justification for installing an LLM on my system 🙂 to show how inefficient it is!
Will be setting this up myself now...

@reallylazybear@mastodon.social @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net similar for me; some apps are unavoidable, but at least I can have some control over them via Tracker Control:

I still pick up the odd record in charity shops now and then. New releases I tend to buy the CD now and rip it immediately into my library.

I was lucky with Ripple not to be involved with project #4. Only #3, Derril Water, which seems to remain a going concern...

@johnquiggin@aus.social if only it were so simple. Propaganda is being shoved into every media output stream; even if banning the overt inclusion of it as 'adverts' were possible it would still be there as product placements and celebrity influencers opinions. I suggest there is probably more nuance required in to how to tackle such things... 🤷♂️

@emsenn@kolektiva.social sometimes, yes. They at least started debate on the issues locally... but this was in the 1990s well before the Internet or social media/smartphones were a thing here in the UK for the general public.
Campaign groups continue to exist and operate similarly today; I worry that their impact is limited/filtered more today as you suggested.
I just wanted to throw in the suggestion of using other channels, not controlled by mega corps...
Good luck!

@emsenn@kolektiva.social perhaps use other channels of communications to raise the issue first? Protest actions, physical leafleting and fly posting, using these kind of 'guerrila' tactics to raise awareness? Local media might take notice, publish and feed this into the mega corps filters, thus getting it into people's consciousness for you?
Essentially use the algorithmic hate machine to work for you?
(I used to run a Greenpeace local support/activist group when I was much younger, before social media!!)

@sjvn@mastodon.social @theregister@geeknews.chat and so it begins... x4 price hikes! Finally the economics start to reflect the terrible ecological price to pay for BS generators.
I can only hope there is justice for those whose life's work has been stolen, and suitable financial penalties begin to reflect this loss to humanity too.
(Economics is a shit tool to direct human behaviour, but it is the only tool Capitalists understand... *sigh*)

@dec23k interesting.
From the paper I understand the 750Hz tone is around 3dB less attenuated, but only in quiet areas with already not much noise, like parks.
In noisy areas, any tone that is distinct from the noise is more easily heard. But everything is attenuated and the warning distance is considerably lower already.
I wonder if these ANC headphone makers are obliged to support 'emergency' vehicle tone detection and not blank it out? Does anyone know?
Or there is the air horn solution🤪

@ChocChipSec@infosec.exchange I have had several like this in the last week.
The links I got were OAuth logins to Microsoft.com, which redirect to the target site after. Quite clever... and possibly a weakness in M$ OAuth policy to accept these redirections?

@izder456 GUI tools for productivity software, including chat/email/calendar/contacts on one desktop. Browser on its own desktop, usually reference material or research going on there; also music streaming. Third desktop is multiple terminal windows for servers I manage, and likely one for localhost too. All TUI/CLI there and where I spend most of the time. This includes code editors; vim only, no language tools! I want to not rely on these things and keep my skills sharp 🙂
