Just saw someone zoom by on a Solar powered recumbent e-bike, clearly homemade. I barely got a photo before he was away. Just commuting to work in Chippenham I think? Legend.

My new best friend is absolutely adorable. I am so excited to be setting him up with a brand new wetland where his whole family can thrive.

Have you ever thought about giving up tech to work on trying to make the world a better place? I have, for five years. It’s been my life for 60 hours a week.

I’ve been consistently broke and happy about it, but when my charity had to take on a loan to buy 84 acres of land… I worry.

I need this crowdfunder to work, or we are absolutely fucked. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-nature-reserve

UK and US testing grounds for each other. Over in Jackson, Mississippi the city knowingly let residents drink lead-contaminated water. Told them to boil water which concentrates the lead. Officials blame residents for expecting clean drinking water or the truth. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/09/drinking-water-mississippi-lawsuit/

If you ask any journalist from Daily Mail to Guardian, farmers and rewilders hate each other.

I drink with the farmers at the local pub and they come help me rewild my land n the weekend.

I do this all over the UK.

Maybe some of y’all suck at your job but I don’t.

RE: @Philsturgeon@mastodon.green

NINE volunteers! Wheeeey we got the job done. Sometimes you get half of what you needed but the half you get absolutely smash the job. Gapped up some hedgerows, made some new woodlands, did a bit of maintenance on old stuff, and left by 2:30pm. Thank you everyone who turns up to help! 🫡

RE: https://mastodon.green/@Philsturgeon/116907274429159404 I love seeing the notifications come in, but we got a lot more squares to sponsor! Also this whole sponsorship thing is @laravelphp@bird.makeup and I’m considering open-sourcing it, but we’ve got a bit more work to do. If anyone feels like contributing there’s some big features to write and it’s a fun domain to solve problems in: literally helping to save the world.

I’ve spent over a year working on the software and integrations to make this happen, but we’ve finally launched our wetland restoration squares! Sponsor a square and get a certificate. First batch is at Warleigh Nature Reserve, on our beaver gentrification project, and I’ll be happy to point you to yours if you come to the weekly volunteering any Saturday. #wetlands #WetlandRestoration #ClimateAction #BiodiversityCrisis https://shop.protect.earth/products/wetland-regeneration

RE: @manchuck@phpc.social

Every single AI project is asking the question “What if we took an already solved project that works incredibly well, then threw it through the slop machine that burns planets just so the job can be done worse.”

It’s reprehensible that during yet another period of fossil fuel instability pushing step changes in renewable deployments to cut costs for everyone whilst also helping the climate @TheGuardian@mstdn.social are platforming climate denying NIMBYs and Reform muppets for just to rile up their liberal base enough to get clicks. https://apnews.com/article/middle-east-wars-renewable-energy-asia-4b5fe0693ce5816472c905db85f7da6e

Calling all Astro.js developers.

My rewilding charity @ProtectEarthUK@toot.protect.earth has been trying to replace a horrible Squarespace site with an API-powered data-centric website.

We urgently need a few volunteers to get this over the line. Grab an issue if you can so we can reach enough parity to kill the old site, then we can work on amazing things.

Get your boss to let you do this as a charity day instead of coming out and planting trees with me.

With the climate crisis clearly getting worse year on year, these long dry summers mean more and bigger wildfires. What does this mean for British woodlands and other fragile ecosystems, as is there anything we can do to limit the size of wildfires in the future. #Biodiversity #Rewilding #Wildfire #ClimateCrisishttps://protect.earth/articles/what-do-wildfires-mean-for-british-woodlands/

The UK is baking. In successive rolling heatwaves, the number of recorded deaths is rising.

We have a new foxy friend that I would like you all to meet. He lives in Warleigh Nature Reserve and he’s slowly taking care of the pheasants that haven’t managed to run into traffic yet despite the pheasant shoot in our new woodlands closing down in 2009. We appreciate his tireless efforts.

RE: @Philsturgeon@mastodon.green

I don’t know if I’ll be lucky enough to get any design help but the current status is “we don’t want to change the logo right now” and everything else is up for grabs. Can anyone pitch in a bit of help? Might be able to throw some budget your way but we’re quite broke after spending £620k buying Warleigh Nature Reserve recently.😅

I was gonna get loads more photos today but a) we had Daisy Brasington rock up to take proper photos and I’m not bringing McDonalds to a Michelin star restaurant, and b) my niece turned up so we had a laugh because I’ve not had any time with her this hectic planting season. Will wait for Daisy to share her shots. Loved my choices. Sponsor our work on https://warleighnaturereserve.org

Coughing so hard for five minutes I nearly choked to death conveniently woke me up in time for early doors on Holiday Inn Express “breakfast buffet”, now it’s off to South Molton to reattempt a few thousand trees after 24 people didn’t bother to come last time.

If I’m here you go no excuse. 🤣

@bitwalker this was always the choice. Some stay on and funnel their cash to good stuff. Some get out to make sure that funnel is real and not just arseholes running off with the bucks. I started as former and switched to latter: relying on former to keep this show on the road. X

When every single software/SaaS company that jacked their prices due to all the pointless AI rubbish nobody asked eventually admit failure and remove it, what are the chances the price will ever go back down? https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/03/21/microsoft-responds-to-microslop-criticism-by-scaling-back-copilot-in-windows-11-starting-with-notepad-and-other-apps/

@GlasWolf@mastodon.scot these solar farms are replacing a coal plant so I even if I generously chose to ignore all of the other impacts I cannot imagine the substation is louder now than before.

@mhartle@mastodon.online what SaaS has invested in AI infrastructure. Most have just crowbarred ChatGPT in with a thin wrapper and pretended it’s a feature. They can revert that PR and cut their costs. Capitalism never passes savings on only costs.

@GlasWolf@mastodon.scot I’ve got several solar farms around me and the only thing I can hear when I walk through them is noisy cars on surrounding roads. I literally live underneath six solar panels. Not sure what people are on about when they talk about noise.

@Photo55@mastodon.social obviously you’ve not looked at what the site does or what it needs to do around fundraising and integrating with multiple APIs, and you’ve definitely not bothered to notice vast majority of that happens as build time, deploying server side rendrerings. We are literally deploying lean HTML and CSS as you said. Functionality first and optimizations later. Network caching on maximum. Lighthouse will be clapping like a seal.
