Once again I start composing a toot of such profundity and magnificence that I realise halfway through I’m boring myself and lose interest.

@anon_opin@mastodon.social @CppGuy@infosec.space @revk@toot.me.uk @mikecox@mastodon.iow.social I think I’m compliant with this as the doorbell camera only records locally and erases footage every 15 days… by the time this postie’s request were processed by my extensive domestic bureaucracy the footage would already be gone.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social saw a thing about the making of this. You’re really a long way from the things, but it’s fast and your brain doesn’t have time to work out that you’re not going to hit it.

@markwyner@mas.to there is something absolutely delightful about that sound and that backdrop. It’s like they’ve hired Murray from Flight of the Conchords to book some gigs.

@baldur@toot.cafe @davidgerard@circumstances.run @helge@mas.to a recent piece from @404mediaco@mastodon.social highlighted an apparent anti-flock grifter claiming to have received legal threats from the company - all fake. Unlike Benn Jordan who really puts the work in, this guy is now starting to ask for money for his legal fighting fund…. So much grift.

@scottjenson@social.coop @megatronicthronbanks@mastodon.social turns out it’s probably a good idea to know what this means: “The SAFELOCK mechanism deactivates the door opening levers if the vehicle has been locked. This makes it more difficult to break into the vehicle. The doors can no longer be opened from the inside.”
That’s why it wants you to check everyone’s out of the car.

@megatronicthronbanks@mastodon.social @scottjenson@social.coop probably justified initially due to the limited space on earlier displays, of course “everyone knows what SAFELOCK™️ is” and then they’ve got used to the odd language structure and just kept it. I can see how this happens. I wonder what it means.

Using voipfone for the main number. It reports the account Id as the number being dialled and on the old install this is matched on to route the call. The new sip driver doesn’t show this number anywhere in the debug logging. I have no idea how to identify incoming calls. Either it’s just broken or the basic principles have changed and I’m not getting it.

@Westcoastmaven@mastodon.social @davidho@mastodon.world possibly overstated. Whilst there is some risk. British heart foundation have this to say: “Induction hobs do generate electromagnetic fields, so keep a distance of at least 60cm (2ft) between the stovetop and your pacemaker. Most people should be able to use a hob if they follow these precautions, but if you are choosing a new cooker, it may be easier to pick one that is not an induction hob.” There remain electric options that, whilst maybe a bit slower than induction, are still perfectly good and better than gas.

Had a very pleasant week off work, hanging around in county Cork, but back to reality with an unpleasantly early thud with a 4.30 am alarm tomorrow. Back to the customer that are impossible to please and live in an alternate reality when it comes to what they think they can do.. ah well.

Ever so brief viking funeral for my linode host. HappyPenguin served me very well for quite a few years but a combination of a slightly annoying upgrade path and ever increasing costs since the Akamai buyout means it's time to for this VM to be pushed down a virtual river on virtual fire.

@tinmouth@infosec.exchange i quite like the idea of another truenas so ZFS snapshots can be preserved… but to be honest what I really need to is just to have the data secure if the main box becomes unavailable in some catastrophic manner. I had planned to self host a mail server but that ended up on mythic beasts so a daily backup is no longer a requirement. My temporary pool of old 2TB disks connected to truenas on an old laptop via an annoying usb dock is just about ok but is nearly at capacity. Dammit everything’s crazy expensive at the moment isn’t it.

Home nas/storage users how do you handle backups? I have a truenas sitting in the garage hosting important personal files (photos, music, etc). Sure I can have another one elsewhere (garden office probably) but I don’t really want another thing running 24/7. Maybe there’s no option but what do you do?

I don’t suppose anyone knows how to fix an issue of #oktaverify selecting the wrong account for a service. Works just fine for me and two of my colleagues but not two others… we are mere users and cannot access any of the administration.
