@dr_jo_mue@troet.cafe @xyla@shitpost.trade Maybe what they mean is that as opposed to France with their centralized LGVs running through from the periphery to Paris, we have a bit of a patchwork of very high speed lines and slower lines shared by other services and cargo, requiring more slowing down and waiting on any given trip, but still, I think it'd be pretty decent network with better coverage if they maintained everything properly

@petergleick@fediscience.org I see a lot of highly educated intelligent people who doubt the reliability of the climate science account. My impression is that a lot of "intellectual doubt spreading" (*) is going on in libertarian circles which really resonates with this clientele, but I don't really understand what's going on. Of course, if you're of the libertarian persuasion, rejecting agw is especially tempting.
(*) along the lines of, models can't predict this because it is too complex, etc.

Can we for concreteness discuss this DIY arrangement from
https://homebrewcorner.blogspot.com/p/pa-150-hf-linear-200w-amplifier.html
just as an example for the kind of design I am talking about.
This apparently uses such a push pull configuration with two separate core halves. The OM says they get appropriate power levels out of this and there is no reason to doubt the measurements shown.
But how? Is this due to high quiescent current settings making the "off" transistor still do some work on the other half wave, or do the parallel caps work some magic here?

@fullywoolly@mastodon.social Yes, so the trouble is that these two halves of the primary windings fed by the two transistors are in separate cores (see photo) which are not coupled magnetically in reality

@upofadown@mstdn.ca What you describe is the reason why transformer coils don't behave like inductors. In our case though, we have exactly the problem that the *primary* on one side is open circuit because the transistor is off, making that part of the *secondary* behave like a high impedance inductor in series with the load, at least for every other half wave that is.
It looks rather pathological in LTSpice, too:
second picture is the "good" case where all output transformer coils are coupled together, first picture the non coupled case of two side by side ferrite sleeves, each coupled to one transistor.

@vk3kri@mastodon.radio This is a bit enigmatic. He acknowledges the fact that the two half transformers are not coupled and need T2 for an artifical center tap:
but then goes on to talk about leaving out T2. I wonder how he would realize the T3 windings in that case, this remains very vague?
