Mongoose Studios
mastodon 4.7.3Software developer, streamer, and big ole nerd.
If I don't follow you back it's probably because you post a lot of politics and I'm trying to remain sane.
I will never understand the clit mouse stans. The most useless human interface device that I have ever had the displeasure to use.
The state of the internet is such that any time I see a screen name that looks like a real person's name I automatically assume they're:
1. a bot
2. trying to sell me something
3. both 1 and 2
Infinity dollars, all the GPU's, all the data ever. Gonna cure all the diseases, solve world hunger, obsolete scarcity. Or maybe just make another shitty wearable that people didn't want the first 3 times.

RE: @eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place
Fuck around, find out.
You would download a car and I'm tired of pretending anyone wouldn't.
Today I was told it was amazing that I still code by hand. For my next astonishing feat I'm gonna go read a book. On paper. Really let my freak flag fly.
People tend to think that past humans were dumb because they didn't know about germs and had horses and boats instead of cars and planes. But they invented the pocket watch from first principles.
Future people are gonna be right about us though. A lot of us are dumb as shit.
Is anyone studying how they make canned vegetables contain 25% of your RDI of salt without tasting like there's any salt in there at all? I feel like we should be able to apply this technology for good.
Too many of you are confusing "ability to recite Reddit's opinion" with knowledge/competence.
I picked a really shitty time to come back to social media. No matter how hard I try to eliminate all the slop it's still constantly the only thing anyone is talking about.
Why are gamers mad about open world games again? I love open worlds. lemme go run around and find weird stuff. If I happen to discover that the enemies in that area are much more badass than I am.... that's just a risk we take.
Don't be such NPC's.
Literally me, on a good day.
It's kinda wild how hard the Vapor Transmission album still goes after all these years.
If you're hiring in 2026 and insisting on in person for roles that don't require it, you're signaling "our culture sucks, our tech literacy sucks, and our management sucks."
If you still aren't posting the salary you're also signaling "we pay poorly."
Cursed with a pathological aversion to performative horseshit in an era when the LARP is to the material as 3 is to 1.
I have regrets regarding the pizza pockets decision. Partially the burned roof of my mouth, but more so the fact that I only got one bag.
I've been a jetbrains@programming.dev
stan for a long time, but every patch I now have to turn off more AI bullshit, and right now their CEF browser thing is crashing constantly. The sloppified writing is on the wall.
Good IDE's for Linux? Multi cursor, screen split, tabs. No vim/emacs.
When you don't feel like fucking around with starting everything up to do local contract testing to make sure you didn't break stuff, but your commit pipeline has your back and the tests all pass.
Anyone else remember reface? It did generational damage to the gif libraries of the world and I still despise it.
Nothing like trying to send a gif of the proud nodding mountain main only to notice after you send it that he's got some stupid chungus face on.
Hot take: given the sustained push Valve is making to support Linux gaming, your indie game NEEDS to care if it runs correctly on Linux/Proton.
The worst part about when the new ant colony that has just moved in discover you have water is waiting for the little bastards to take all the ant poison home and die.
I now understand why the Home Depots here have infinity ant poison on the shelf.
It's really hard to know where you are on the competency scale.
Need: recommendations for web design materials for back end developers that can't front end good and want to be good at other stuff too.
No AI slop.
Some of y'all never grew up hearing "never tell strangers on the internet your real name" and it shows.
Shit I don't want:
1. clankers telling me if my shit is the same as everyone else
2. pretty much everything that this guy's face is on come to think of it
You either die young, or live long enough to become that old guy who answers every question with "well.... it depends..."
Does my reach happen to extend to anyone who's doing dev work at Teleport? Y'all's recruiter hit me up but I'm deeply tired of playing "pretend project" for interviews, especially with hundreds of hours of me coding live available on teh interwebs.
Curious if it's worth it.
Me: It would be good to refactor this to not be one big package for improved separation of concerns and to make it easier to reason about. But I suspect that here there be dragons.
Client: Make it so
Me, scorched, clawed, and slightly bitten: Yeah, that figures.
It's funny that I used to be a "don't read the comments" guy. Because now I get the comments.
I had forgotten that Star Trek deals regularly with the loss of friends, parents, spouses, etc. A stark contrast to the modern era, where everything must carry 27 warning labels for an offhanded mention.
