Hi. Any blind people have audio described versions of the 1999 film version of Animal Farm and the one that comes after that? I have the 1954 version. If not, undescribed audio would be fine. Thanks for any help or boosts.

My GMail accounts and my company's email, which uses Google, are aggressively persecuting VPN use. I am enraged by this. I see it as a symptom of technofascism. Privacy is a right. Consealing my location on the internet is a right. VPN use is a right. My data is mine. Leave me alone!

@prism@infosec.exchange Absolutely agree with the fact that she's in a tough spot, it's the "it's a monstrous idea until I suggest it" and the rest of the crew falls in that I don't like. It's the Belana you're a bad person for doing what you did and you're in big trouble, Tuvock you hurt my feelings but I respect what you did even though it was the same as her. It's the Chekote just saw you totally willing to kill someone in cold blood and we're not even going to talk about this? @Rosalyn@mindly.social

@Rosalyn@mindly.social I remember they did jump to an overly clear cut conclusion regarding the nanno probes which they then found could have been for multiple reasons, but it certainly bore further investigation. @prism@infosec.exchange

I just wrote to my MP demanding the UK work with NATO allies to maintain and strengthen the stance against Trump's aggressive threats towards Greenland.
It feels good to do something, however small, to frustrate the ambitions of a tyrant. Please join me. Contact your representative and tell them you are pro state sovereignty and anti-annexation. Here's how to contact your MP in the UK https://www.lgbthero.org.uk/dpp3-contacting-your-mp

@mattblaze@federate.social I live in the UK. I remember distinctly, during a history class in the week that followed 9/11, a fighter jet roaring overhead, not a common sound where my school was located. I jumped and I wasn't the only one. We were all on edge.

I have spent my day writing sentences like this: Slime is released and pressed in a pot with 3 resonant, airy plops increasing in pitch alternating with 2 large, dry, airy, toneless fart-like crackling raspberries.

@ptoothfish@beige.party @raphaelmorgan@disabled.social You said scraping was stealing. If there are use cases where it isn't, and vital ones for the freedom of information at that, then maybe scraping publically available things that are meant to be freely accessed isn't stealing. If I buy a knife from you then stick it in someone's neck, it is not the buying of the knife that was the crime.

@ajroach42@retro.social I agree about too many things being lumped together as AI; I agree about the nuance in use cases; what I don't think enough attention is paid to the difference between what the end user does and what the technology provider does. I don't think it's right to ascribe a tech company's evil to someone using AI necessarily if what they are trying to produce is valuable and ethical, i.e. not disinformative, deep fake grift.

@stevo399@dragonscave.space There's quite a lot here.
this is why I strongly feel that we should steer away from shame *but* avoid complacence. Looked at hard enough, everyone will be doing something unhelpful, but that doesn't mean we should stalemate ourselves into inaction on anything. We could all do better, but there's a danger of using that as a sort of excuse not to do anything.

@LeonianUniverse@leonianplace.masto.host Na local AI is fine. It doesn't require river-drinking, electricity scoffing data centres and doesn't hand big tech data. I see no problem with local AI.

"We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. @stevo399@dragonscave.space In the same vane, if we can send our money in a more ethical direction, however much or little, we probably should. If enough people do that and different behaviour patterns start diffusing, those foregone $20/months will add up. Around Covid, I forget if it was during or after, tech stocks fell because people stopped using them as much, people sent their little bits of money elsewhere and it hurt the companies, albeit temporarily.

@prism@infosec.exchange I see what you mean. I liked it and the ambiguity. I wouldn't say it's the worst episode though. That honour, for me, goes to that one with the constant time loop in TNG. That was tedious.

@stevo399@dragonscave.space Every time I transfer money without giving some of it to Musk via Paypal or buy from a store that isn't Amazon, particularly if it's a small business, that's something to feel good about. Hopefully the little victories add up and it's worth it. It has to be. It's almost all we have.

@closeted_unionist@mastodon.social I wonder why they funded it. Hmm. I just wanna see the different interpretations. The thing I'm not loving about the 50s version so far is that the contention of the fil seems to be that bad things happen because of individual temperament rather than ther pernitious corruption of power. Seems to say if only Napoleon and Squealer hadn't been around things would have been better.

@Rosalyn@mindly.social @prism@infosec.exchange Except is she really discounted? They are skeptical at first and divided but gather enough evidence that they want to investigate further. that's hardly discounting is it, just a rocky road to proof that meets an adequate standard. They're sorry he died and feel like they drove him to it, had they acted differently, he might not have wasted his life. I never felt his guilt or innocence was established though and I liked that ambiguity.

@prism@infosec.exchange I don't remember her categorically saying they'd proved him innocent or them doing so so that's my bad and doesn't make a lot of sense. I took it as a we'll never know ending. I do remember the Doctor being typically meladramatic, but put that down to criticism of the way they went about things, not what they went about. And, sort of obliquely, this is me, who thinks the crew of Voyager is the most ethically inconsistent of the franchise. @Rosalyn@mindly.social

@inthehands@hachyderm.io Absolutely this. There is far too much hate and far too little sympathy for users trapped, for whatever reason in less than ideal and/or less than ethical situations. This by no means implies users should be complacent, but making the handful of people you can reach on your TL feel bad for choices they probably wish they weren't making isn't the answer.
Support, encouragement and a road map to better things would be far more constructive and mutually beneficial!
